Not sure this is where I need to post this but oh well. I just moved here and love it, but what's with all the shootings in Colorado? Is it the extra sunshine, thin air, or am I just a small town naive guy? It just seems like theres a lot of shootings here that get national attention.

Columbine and the Aurora theater got national attention. They were 13 years apart. What other "lot of shootings" are you talking about that got national attention?

Nothing compared to Chicago or parts of Florida.

I think there are shootings everywhere, we're just overly sensitive to it here thanks to Columbine, Platte Canyon High School, and Aurora. Colorado is such a beautiful place to be that it's hard to grasp that not everyone is happy and some make choices that seem to belong in worse-off parts of the country. But that's just my own observations/opinion and I could be wrong. Certainly the beauty of a place alone isn't enough to overcome financial struggles, personal troubles, depression, etc.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

Well maybe it's just that they are bigs ones like Columbine and Aurora. This just doesn't seem like the kind of state where you see that stuff... then today I see one on national news in Denver and thought wtf? Most shootings in AK seem to be self inflicted so there's that perspective. Doesn't change my love of my new home, just curious as to some opinions.

Well, the news that the Aurora shooter (who is from California) applied to universities all over the country means that shooting could have happened anywhere, had he been accepted somewhere else. So I don't even put that in the Colorado category.

We seem to be a magnet for weird stories. Jon Benet, Columbine, Aurora Theater, and now facebook and hostages. There is way more shooting in places like new york etc and right now there is another high speed chase in Cali but we always have the weird precedent setting stories. I don't know why. Maybe we are just odd because of the altitude. Mountains can be an odd place as well.
