so he found himself in a bad place after he had claimed that he has never paid below 13%. No wonder it took so long for his accountants and lawyers to get his 2011 returns ready for viewing. He ended up RETROACTIVELY not claiming ALL of his charitable deductions so that his rate stayed about the claimed 13%. If he had, his tax rate would have been closer to 10%.
Of course, the real beauty of this ruse is that when no one is paying attention after this election, he can simply file an amended return and get that money back.
The point I care about is his ease of lying and then going back to make the lie right after the fact. The same thing occurred when he was running for senator in MA, claiming residency in the state when he had shown Utah as his primary residence before then. Didn't he claim to have been LIVING IN THE FRICKIN' BASEMENT OF HIS SON or some story like that?
I don't like how easy it comes to him to deceive people for his own gain.
Romney's kind of between a rock and a hard place here. The reason his effective tax could of been below 13% is because he donated a whopping 30% to charities. If he had only donated 1.5%, like Joe Biden did, his effective tax would of probably been close to 20% (a guess on my part).
So he could of donated much less to charities to make his effective tax much less a political target. But instead he donated 30%. Go figure.
He has a three-year window to file an amended return and reclaim the rest of the deductions he didn't claim, (in order to manipulate his tax-rate). If he loses the election, the odds are virtually 100% that he will do so.
3 of the 4 million went to the Mormon church, that isn't unusual for mormons. I would have more respect for the man if he just owned up to his tax rate than manipulating the tax return to fit his previous narrative
I love how they try to add together the amount he paid in taxes with the amount he gave to charity, and say, "Look! What he did!"
No, actually, charitable donations, (including the 10%+ that he gives to the Mormon church), are DEDUCTIONS that REDUCE the tax-burden. You don't add them together...Except, of course, in TeaPublican La-La-Land...
