this would be mind blowing

I have heard of it before but cannot manage to wrap my mind around it.

"By allowing a person or family to produce their own tools, kitchen appliances, and even automobiles, a 3D printer in every home would have sweeping consequences for the 21st century. Aziz emphasizes how a Makerbot Industry would decentralize manufacturing as well as energy generation:"

Technologically possible today but not very affordable yet. The day will/may come but industry and consumers will have to create a demand first and keep prices at a realistic level.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

So what would you print first?

I'm thinking Bridget Bardot.

We have one at work (manufacturer that does custom builds) and it is a godsend. Lead times shrink by 6 weeks and cost is 1/10th. Plus if the customer needs a replacement, just print him another, you have the file. Wouldn't it be awesome around the house. Need a missing bolt? Print it after you find the file online instead of driving to town.

Big benefits for printing prototypes and determining if those parts and pieces can be made at a profit.

It would be fun to print out a 1942 Willy's jeep and see if all the parts came together as they should. What about all of the fluids and linkages that would have to be connected? You are gonna need a lot more cartridges and they'll have more than just ink in them.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

A jeep? We both come from a Navy background but I think we are on different wavelengths.

Good point about old Jeeps. Have an old one and they no longer make that broken part? Print a replacement.

The morals of creating new people would creep me out; would they be normal citizens like everyone else or replicas or considered to be real people? Go rent Blade Runner for a buck and think it through.

On the other hand wouldn't it be wonderful to print out an endless supply of high quality ale and Porterhouse steaks?!
