More than 1,000 pastors plan to challenge IRS by endorsing presidential candidate

The annual event, dubbed “Pulpit Freedom Sunday,” has been organized by the conservative Christian group Alliance Defending Freedom. The pastors participating in the event plan to preach about the election, endorse a candidate, and send video of their sermon to the IRS.

“The purpose is to make sure that the pastor — and not the IRS — decides what is said from the pulpit,” Erik Stanley, senior legal counsel for the group, told FoxNews.com. “It is a head-on constitutional challenge.”

I hope the IRS nails 'em. Yes, they have the freedom to say what they want from the pulpit. They don't have immunity from the results of preaching politics.

Perhaps taking away their exemptions for property-tax, and all the other freebies they get will cause them to have a "come-to-Jesus" meeting...?

Free speech for everyone who doesn't pay income taxes? Wouldn't that mute the poor?

I wasn't aware that property taxes were "income taxes"... Nice try though...

We are also talking about the IRS and what counts as taxable income for a church.

But I do support churches paying local property taxes and I would also support them paying more income tax.

Looks to me like they are just pushing for a court case to settle this once and for all, and the IRS has not pursued it in the past. Maybe it needs to be settled and decided. I personally think Celebs and Preachers should stay out of politics, but that's just IMO

I agree, but preachers get tax breaks. I think they should loose those tax breaks if they poke their noses into politics in an official capacity.
