Some Lefties believe that women are incapable and need help protecting keeping their rights against a small minority. Even though more women than men graduate college. Or more likely the Left is using scare tactics to encourage women to vote for them.

Great point Grady. When you have Pakistan where child brides are burned to death if the family dowry isn't rich enough, or Afghanistan, where young girls are sprayed with acid for going to school equating the lack of free birth control as a war on women is hyperbole of the worst sort.

No, your posting that the issues women have with the Republican party are about "free birth control" is hyperbole of the ridiculous sort. It never has been about free birth control.

Then what is the war on women to you? Banning contraception? Equal pay? Roe V. Wade?

Fred, I have spent most of my adult life working for the rights of women. In college on the 60s I worked to get the women on campus equal freedoms....women had curfews, men did not.....women could not live off campus, men could. When I graduated I went into the corporate world and continued working for equality. Why was I hired as a systems engineer, being paid less than my male counterparts? All of us fresh out of college, no experience, but different pay scales. I also saw first hand the sexual harassment that many women endured before there were laws to protect them. Those were the years when birth control became widely available.....in college I had a friend who went to a "back street abortionist" she didn't die from the encounter, but spent weeks on the hospital with a massive infection and was treated like a criminal.

We have made tremendous strides since then, and now I see one party eroding the foundations of the gains women have made towards true equality and their right to control their own lives.....rights men have always had. It is not just about what conservatives can actually accomplish in their attempt to regulate women.....I would hope there are enough cooler heads on Congress that would block laws that would ban abortion, or take contraception out of insurance coverage.

What I am hearing from conservatives is this insidious desire to go back in time, when women were second class citizens. When women had their worth determined by who they married and how wonderful their husband and kids were. When being a single mom was frowned upon. When women in business had not just a glass ceiling, but they were treated as not very serious about careers, and if they were career minded they were accused of being tough, and unfeminine, and bitchy. The war on women is as much about taking away who we have become over half a century as it is about attacking our rights.

I applaud all your efforts archer. Women have made progress. But you are wrong when you say conservatives are trying to take us back in time. They support women's efforts they just don't feel like they should have to pay for them by a liberal's stroke of a pen.
