True. I think I have a very good moral code and I no longer believe in a vengeful/loving god.
But with the breakdown of families, I don't think morality is as likely to be taught. I see too many families where the kids learn more from a video screen than heart to heart talks with parents.

I think if we look closely we would find that same dynamic in religious families....maybe not as much.....but it would make an interesting study.

Yes, even back in the old days in religious families, you always had the black sheep. the Amish even let the kids go crazy for a few months just to get it out of their system.

What this place does have is a lot of older well established families and community culture.

I have come to the determination in recent years whilst living there that it is this culture that we have allowed to slip or move away in many communities and we have replaced it with govt culture and police. I think the police state of Park County exemplifies this, next to no crime, tons of police and a bunch of big govt republicans running the show, inside your home and out.

I think religion and culture are the opposite of big govt and when you have big govt, you must give up religion and culture. They are all tools for showing others how to behave. I just have to say, in this area anyway, the culture is saving the folks huge sums of money and liberty.
What say you about religion and culture vs. larger govt institutions?

I agree with your thoughts. I do think it would be a tad more accurate to say we "give up religion and culture" as it previously existed.

I think that generally governments start out formalizing what religion and culture already accept. I am pretty sure it was culturally unacceptable to eat you parents long before it became illegal.

No culture lasts forever and we might be approaching our shelf life. I was going to ask you where you live until I got to your last post.

Well put, except for the shelf life, culture evolves. We evolved from a Nation that revered liberties above almost everything else, and now we could just about care less, as we have found so many more important things like Ipods, but this is the same evolving culture. Perhaps you are really implying the same thing.

So without saying it, do you think you figured it out, where I be, feel free to PM with guess?

Concure. Cultures evolve. Nations have shelf lifes.

I have no guesses as to where you are. At our age I believe my wife and I already live at our last address. It was just idle curiosity. I already know of several enclaves that sound similar to what you have found.

Well put, now it is our job to work on a good preservative technique.....pickling?

Due to global warming and the rise of the oceans, we'll soon be brined, and then smoked when the forests burn up. Hmm, that reminds me to throw down some salmon on the smoker.

Raees, this thread was not about religion, though it was brought up? But I could see how some ignorant folks don't know the difference between religion and culture.

But know you are VERY religious. You determine right from wrong using your political party, it is your religion. You are even willing to force other people to follow it using laws. Literally hurt them with physical pain or lock them in a box if they don't follow.

Or perhaps you are using the part of culture we call a joke? Perhaps it's time to come down off that battle horse.
