Three days before Jefferson County Democrats were scheduled to hand out their Democrat of the Year award, they were warned that the recipient was under investigation for exploiting an elderly woman with physical and mental disabilities.

Now, the party faces the embarrassment of seeing its honored volunteer — Estelle Carson — as a convicted felon.

A Jefferson County jury on Thursday convicted Carson of identity theft and theft from an at-risk person, both felonies, according to Pam Russell, spokeswoman for the district attorney. Carson, 67, is scheduled to be sentenced in December.

The party announced in December that Carson was the recipient but didn't hear from critics until right before the Jan. 8 dinner, said Chris Kennedy, chairman of the Jefferson County Democratic Party.

Why wouldn't the Democrats elect this individual as Democrat of the Year, especially knowing she was guilty? Isn't redistribution of wealth a big part of the Democrat's platform? Sure she got caught and it's currently against the law to take other peoples money; theft is such an ugly word why can't the Democrats change the laws to ensure everyone is equally poor? Vote for Barry and Uncle Joe and we'll find out.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Maybe they'll give HER the same cell that Doug Bruce had?

Damn shame when the only way you can make yourself feel better about yourself is by bringing all those around you down to your level.

"They did it too!"

I think I'll save this post....so I can compare how you handle it when the conservatives here use the "they did it too" defense.

So... that makes it all right? If "they did it too" balances everything out? Why don't you address the topic of this thread and give us an opinion instead of deflecting from the topic.

Here comes the thread police....your buddy didn't address the topic, NTM simply attacked a liberal with no mention of the thread topic. But you, in your usual hypocritical way.....attack the person who points out the hypocrisy, not the hypocritical poster. Gotta love how you conservatives stick together....no matter what idiotic posts you generate.

And you fail to see the hypocrisy in your post? LJ tried to deflect the topic to Doug Bruce rather than address the topic of the thread. Then you defend her. You liberals always stick together, no matter what idiotic posts you generate.

Of course we liberals stick together....there aren't enough of us here to allow the right wingers to divide us. Call it election fatigue, or election sensitivity, but it sure seems to me that we are all focusing more on the messenger than we are on the message. Yep....I'm as guilty as the rest of you. It would be an interesting experiment to spend the day posting only ideas and personal opinions about only the issues and leave the personalities out of it.

It will never happen, but it would be interesting.

You've got a point, and thanks for including yourself. I tend to disagree that the liberals are so heavily outnumbered, but maybe that's just my impression because some are so prolific :)

I think I'll spend the day cleaning the garage, and then I'm going to vote. The ballot is sitting right here waiting for me to research the judges and the candidates for local offices. I'll get that done before the Bronco game :)

I hope you have a great day Archer.
