Social conservatism is toxic? Maybe, but it wasn't too many years ago that Clinton fought homosexual marriage by signing DOMA into law. That super liberal California rejected same sex marriage at the ballot box. I am a little suspicious to think 10 years can totally change a country. And if it can swing this way for one election, it can swing back in a few more years.
Personally I am a social libertarian, but to think social conservatives are buried from now on would be naive. Ever heard of the Great Awakening?

Clinton was forced into signing it as part of a compromise to get other things he wanted...Just as Obama was forced to extend the Bush tax cuts for 2 years to get the middle-class tax-cuts he wanted. For you to keep harping on that as though Clinton signed it because he was "actually FOR it" is laughable.
I don't want social-conservatives to be buried... I WANT them to keep speaking out. Every time you get one of the looney-tunes that says things about "legitimate rape", and rape being "part of God's plan", and a Governor "Vaginal Probe" forcing Ultra-Sound probes into women's bodies against their will, you will guarantee a backlash and another lost election... Statistical projections show the GOTP is headed for extinction as the younger voters coming of age are OVERWHELMING leaning middle-left.
