I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

It could be worse... We could be stuck with a clueless vulture-capitalist who thinks 47% of the American people are victims, losers and takers... And whose idea of a foreign policy trip was to make a fool of himself in 4 different countries...

A lot of your list, we inherited from previous screw-ups... But since it apparently makes you feel better to rant, have a nice day...

Oh, how silly of me... "freerepublic"... Nothing to see here folks, move along...

I, for one, am proud to "own it". We made a choice....we chose to move forward, not turn back. We chose opportunity over fear. We chose the American people over special interests and corporate welfare. We chose a president for all Americans, not just the special few, we chose healthcare for more Americans, not just the well to do. We chose to honor a woman's right to choose and equal rights for all Americans to marry the person they love no matter their gender. We chose to reject holding this nation hostage to the extreme views of a small segment of our society. We chose to build our country, not tear it apart. I am proud of our choices.....yep, I will gladly own it.

The main problem I see in your rosy outlook is that you're trying to build our country from the top down. IMHO, change needs to start local and build to the federal level, not the other way around.

No matter how bad things get, here's what the excuses will be:
#1 "Nobody could have done a better job so quit bitching because you are just a racist"
#2 "You can't fix what Bush did in only two terms so quit bitching because you are a racist"
#3 "Don't blame Obama, the House won't let him get anything done" (oh ya, and you're a racist)
I'm sure I missed a couple.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

You own it by simply not resisting more.

The 47% won't be paying off that debt, their children and grandchildren will be. Sorry kids, we blew it.

Don't say sorry, fight for what is right.

We need to tax older people more, people older than me borrowed more of this money when I had no say and my generation borrowed when the younger people did not have a say.

The older you are, the more you should pay for YOUR mistakes in either electing people, speaking up or picking poorly in referendums. For not balancing the budget or planning ahead, as is YOUR job because YOU hire the leaders. The voters of the last 6 decades have failed us, they have left us in this position, they are here posting and the older they are, the more voting mistakes they made (even if they refrained) and the more they should pay. Perhaps a 100% death tax for those who die over 50 would be appropriate, as they already spent the money for us. Perhaps a 100% sales tax for those over 50 on anything but food, housing and health care until we have no govt debt? How about no govt hand outs without showing you are in need (SS is not a retirement program, it is WELFARE FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT HACK IT ON THEIR OWN, like PUBLIC SCHOOLING for 1/10 the actual cost). By the way, I am 50.

This includes me, you and the other guys depending on your age.

One quick way to solve this is make older folks qualify for SS and other benefits. If they ain't poor, they should not be able to run their grandchildren further into the ground.

Screw the apology, SHAME on the generations past and current for spending money they don't have, SHAME for making us slaves to future debt. SHAME on anyone who pushes the govt to spend money right now without first having a plan to pay past debt and then having a plan to pay current debt.

The average US household will borrowed over $200 on the day after thanksgiving and they did not even know it, that is just how much the US borrowed THAT DAY VIA THE GOVT - not their personal shopping. But their share of the countries debt is around 2000x as big....two thousand times as big or about a half of a million dollars and no one plans on paying it back, just working till death and leaving their kids with the burden, after they got crappy overpriced training.

Older people? The Economist talking about the current budget crisis complains that too much of the country's tax receipts go to the older generation instead of being invested in young people. And these same Euros find our taxing system not equitable enough: they think lower income people need to pay more in taxes like Europe, like VAT, taxes on food.

When you say tax recpts, to you mean who pays?

I am suggesting something very simple, that the people that decided to spend the money pay it back.

Someone who is 17 did not decide to spend any of the money of the past, so they should have much less to pay back, especially since we are not leaving them with good systems (overly complex tax code, ACA, excessive laws, discouraging businesses to hire, etc.)

Someone who is 70 has made a lifetime of decisions to get us into this mess and should pay back the most. All the taxes they paid for all the work did not cover what they asked for, time to pay more, you asked for it.

Those of us in the middle, should pay in the middle and speak up, resist more.

Yes VATs and sales taxes and SS taxes and MC taxes are regressive. Min wage is regressive on the low end (where it is supposed to do it's work). Most people tend to ignore that stuff. I am just talking about who should pay, not the exact formula.

If you are older, you got us into this mess, you designed the systems the kids live under and you borrowed away their future. For good people, it is payback time. But we are not good people, we will force kids to pay for this stuff and they will get less and less for it. We enslave via our policies. It is almost like we are breeding in order to make future debt paying workers. Kinda sick, could be a scifi movie.
