Judge Bans New Year’s Eve Possum Drop

27 Dec 2012 13:08 #1 by otisptoadwater

“It ain’t the new year until the possum drops” has been the saying around town for the past 19 years – but not anymore.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals complained that the annual tradition was illegal and cruel. So they filed a lawsuit against the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.possum

A judge ruled in their favor – declaring the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission had not right to issue a permit for the event.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

I imagine in that part of the country it's not uncommon to shoot and eat 'em but we can't have a live possum put in a cage, lowered from a pole, and then set free - that's just barbaric.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Now instead they will have possum drops where you shoot them out of the tree at Midnight after the dogs put them there.

Only on 285Bound would we have the usual assortment of Neanderthals, wingnuts and neo-cons arguing that somehow a court interfering with their right to drop a possum is an outrage-of-the-day...

You can't make this sh*t up...

(Oh, wait... FauxNews told them to... Got it...)

Does this mean I shouldn't launch a chipmunk from a spud cannon carrying a "Happy New Year" Banner?

He'd be wearing goggles and itty bitty crash helmet....
