Hybrids already make a high-pitched unique whine when they are running on battery only, they just need to make that a little bit louder IMO. I can hear a hybrid in a parking lot, but only if it's within 50 feet of me - that's not far enough if they are traveling at a faster velocity out on a street.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
When horseless carriages were first approved, one jurisdiction required someone to run 50 feet in front of the vehicle to warn people riding horses to beware.
And when the first hybrids were released, some fire departments and ambulance companies were worried about being electrocuted if they touched the vehicle after it had been in a accident.

Don't worry Gramma, its only for 0-18mph so you should be ok on the highway. You can always stuff a rag in the speaker or just unplug it, but then you may get a ticket for "excessive silence" LOL
If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2
Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.

Not to get off topic, but this is a pretty legitimate thing. Had to take a class on hybrids with an extensive course on the safety concerns. Gave the term "ride the lightning" a new perspective. Carry on.
