The Interior Secretary’s $222,000 Bathroom

The personal bathroom used by the secretary of the Interior is so swanky that its renovation cost $222,000. No detail was overlooked: It has a $3,500 sub-zero refrigerator (hey, if you’re going to have a fridge in the bathroom, it might as well be a good one) and a $689 faucet. At least the “vintage tissue holder” was cheap: just $65 bucks.

The news this morning was saying that he is out as of March. Good riddance.

Good to know the Republican Interior Sec'y was so nice to built that right before giving the office to Ken Salazar. I hope Ken was able to enjoy it before finally retiring this week.

See when even the Republicans are spending way too much, you know goverment is out of control. Bring back Jimmy Carter who made his staff fly coach.

BTW, I had to buy one of those subzero units for some workplace testing and I gulped at the price writing the PO. The company makes good stuff, but they are very proud of it. A little excessive for office use.

Grady, it was built for Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne under President Bush, not Salazar.

Dirk built the throne, Ken got to enjoy it. (Did he need a stepstool to reach it?)

I didn't read the article, I apologize. :(: I was only commenting on Salazar leaving the administration.

Which brings up the question of why remodel if you're leaving? My hunch is Interior had some extra money they had to spend by a certain deadline or they'd lose it.

The idea of keeping food in a fridge in the bathroom makes me want to puke.

It's not for food, Gramma. It's for liquor.

I wonder how many outhouses on BLM land you could build for $222K? Probably one knowing how the Feds spend money.
