Guns & Non Violent Felons?

Per the Denver Post this morning a Republican statehouse legislator wants to change the law so that you would be allowed to own guns if you commit certain types of felonies. What do you say? Personally I like the carrot and stick idea. If you have been a good boy you get to buy guns.

Well if you can't be trusted to vote, why be trusted to use a firearm responsibly?

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Ask any 18 year old. They are trusted to be able to vote and marry but not own hand guns or beer.

Back around 7'th grade I believed that when someone "paid their debt to society" it meant exactly that. Full rights restored. That has always made sense to me.

Of course that does not preclude a 2'nd time offender from getting the "book thrown at them".

Some parties do want to allow felons who have paid their debt to society to regain the right to vote. IIRC, this is a state issue and not a federal.

But what is "paid their debt to society"? Just because a person has served their time, has their debt truly been paid?

That sounds like a moral vs legal perspective. No punishment can undo harm done but in the context of this thread I meant the sentence imposed by the court.

Isn't a person aware that if they commit a felony, they loose certain rights, such as the right to ever own a firearm.
Sorry but I personally believe it is a right you lose forever by having committing the crime.
A felony isn't like running a traffic light.

You can petition to get these rights back. Usually entails a pardon by the governor or POTUS.

If a guy was busted for growing pot when he was 18, does that mean he should be unableto protect his family with a firearm when he is 30? I think it there should be acceptions for non gun related felonies (and no, I've never been busted for growing weed) I'm way to sneaky.
