Sorry OTN, but giving advice that can seriously harm someone is not free speech

Did she do it in a public forum.....an advice column read by maybe millions who would take that advice?

You think that should matter? I think people should be as free to take bad advice as people should be to render bad advice. Do you think the government has the smarts to regulate advice? Do you think they should have the power to regulate advice?

That's putting a lot of words into my posts that I didn't write....nice work. I think the government should have the power to regulate WHO gives advice in a certain instances....like health and legal, NOT the advice given.

In other words government should not be allowed to regulate what we say only who is allowed to say it as long as it is a subject you think requires government intervention? If that is putting words in your mouth please enlighten me.

Close enough.....what's your take on it? Should we allow just anyone to dispense medical advice to the public in a manner that appears to be from an expert? If their advice harms someone, should they be held liable? Why have medical schools and exams then? Should we let just anyone practice medicine? or law?

Now you are putting a lot of words in my mouth....nice work.

NOONE should be allowed to represent themselves as a lawyer, doctor and dispense credentialed advice .... if they are not. That is not what I said nor does it resemble anything I said.

Correct me if I am wrong but you said that if I told my daughter that when she was stung as a baby calamine lotion helped it would be OK but if I said it on a popular blog it should be illegal unless I was a credentialed? How many people would have too read it to cross that thresh hold. 10 views, 100,000, at what # does it stop being free speech and becomes something that should be regulated by the government?

Edit, I see I did notquite directly answer your question: I believe if it is not fraud it is free speech.

No, I am not....I asked a question, which you answered, thank you......how does asking questions become "putting words in your mouth"?

I'm sorry you can't see the distinction in what I am saying....it's in how the information is represented....if the information is represented as medical advice, or legal advice, or even nutritional advice from an "expert" and that person is not an expert in the legal sense (has a license to practice medicine, or law, or a nutritionist, or whatever professional) than yeah, it is not free speech.
