Is Senator Ted Cruz Our New McCarthy?
by: Jane Mayer

Two and a half years ago, Cruz gave a stem-winder of a speech at a Fourth of July weekend political rally in Austin, Texas, in which he accused the Harvard Law School of harboring a dozen Communists on its faculty when he studied there. Cruz attended Harvard Law School from 1992 until 1995. His spokeswoman didn’t respond to a request to discuss the speech.

Cruz made the accusation while speaking to a rapt ballroom audience during a luncheon at a conference called “Defending the American Dream,” sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, a non-profit political organization founded and funded in part by the billionaire industrialist brothers Charles and David Koch. Cruz greeted the audience jovially, but soon launched an impassioned attack on President Obama, whom he described as “the most radical” President “ever to occupy the Oval Office.” (I was covering the conference and kept the notes.)

He then went on to assert that Obama, who attended Harvard Law School four years ahead of him, “would have made a perfect president of Harvard Law School.” The reason, said Cruz, was that, “There were fewer declared Republicans in the faculty when we were there than Communists! There was one Republican. But there were twelve who would say they were Marxists who believed in the Communists overthrowing the United States government.

[Note: Not "ELEVEN" or "THIRTEEN"...But EXACTLY "TWELVE"... A well-known McCarthy tactic...

"I have here in my hand a list of 205 . . . a list of names that were made known to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping policy in the State Department. -- Joe McCarthy, 1950]

Harvard Law School Professor Charles Fried, a Republican who served as Ronald Reagan’s Solicitor General from 1985 to 1989, and who subsequently taught Cruz at the law school, suggests that his former student has his facts wrong. “I can right offhand count four “out” Republicans (including myself) and I don’t know how many closeted Republicans...

Well, I'm SHOCKED, I tell you...SHOCKED!! (Apparently, so was the NewYorker, and several other mainstream news organizations... They contacted Sen. Cruz' office and asked for clarification and some specificity on who the "named TWELVE" Marxists/Communists who believed in overthrowing the United States Government..." might be?!? Sen. Cruz office refuses to respond...) No surprise there...

(When confronted for the "list of the 205 known Communists", that degenerate, McCarthy wouldn't respond either.)

When Cruz' office refused to respond, they contacted Harvard Law School Professor Charles Fried...(already quoted)...

So, we have a teabagger in the Senate...(from Texas...Imagine my surprise!?)...who says, "I don't have any facts, or any proof, but Mr. Hagel I DEMAND that you defend yourself from these phony charges...(against the "Friends of Hamas", and "The Junior League of Hezbollah"...) about organizations that don't exist...

:rofllol  :rofllol  :rofllol  :rofllol  :rofllol  :rofllol  :rofllol  :rofllol

Gee, even McCain and Lindsey Graham had to yank on the leash and give the now-famous speech, "At last, Senator, have you no sense of decency?"

I just wish teabaggers would just stop hiding. This is about President Obama being Black. Don't hide behind words like commie/socialist/marxist. Admitting you have a problem is the first step. And before you ask, yep I just played the race-card. I figure as long as you keep dealing the hand, I'm going to play the card..

God, I'm going to love watching the "Death March of the Dinosaurs" in 2014, and 2016. Just watching the McCain "Town Hall" and having the Neanderthals reveal themselves on national TV is more than I could have hoped for... More entertaining than the GOP debates when the audience chanted "Let him die!"..

Thanks!

You honestly believe that there are no self declared Marxists on the faculty at Harvard Law? Even in the conservative Midwest university I attended we had self described Marxists in the economics philosophy and even the religious studies. Pretty good profs. most of them. And Frogger they are scared of Cruz. Educated Hispanic overcame huge odds to the primary plus he hit the ground running in the Senate. Hispanic Senators Rubio and Cruz. Who do the Dems have other than that pedophile Menendez in New Jersey?

I'm still waiting for a list of the "TWELVE"... Not "ELEVEN" or "THIRTEEN"...But EXACTLY "TWELVE". Marxists/Communists who believed in overthrowing the United States Government.

If you want to start your "They did it too"/deflection crap, feel free to start your own thread...

Scared of Cruz? :rofllol  :rofllol

What part of "PLEASE, JUS' KEEP DOIN' WHAT YER DOIN'!!!" do you not get?!? Watching the TeaHadists make buffoons of themselves with their 63-years-too-late McCarthy tactics is the best thing that could happen to the Democrats...God, I'm going to love watching the "Death March of the Dinosaurs" in 2014, and 2016. People like Cruz and Palin are indicative of what is wrong with the Republican party, but I will point out that the left has it's share of whack a doodles as well. Too often people will vote for "their" party no matter how unpalatable the candidate.

Yes, I'm sure that at some point between the dawn of human recorded history, and the last week, "The left did it too....."

However, THIS thread is about Ted "McCarthy" Cruz and his insinuations of events that were either phony, non-existent, or the result of a joke that the Right was too stupid to "get."
