Why, yes, I have... Have you ever heard of a machine that does "robo-signing"?...I believe they've been in use at the White House since the early-60's, or possibly earlier...
I believe the slimebags at the banking institutions have been using them for years to falsify loan-documents...
Do you honestly think the President personally approves, signs and hand-delivers every Purple Heart to every recipient?
But the authority to award that medal comes from ultimately the President at the time. Split hairs all you want but it is your hang nail that is about to go on this....LOL
This president HAS met with a Purple Heart recipients, and yet you still dislike him.... He could have met with every living PHR there is on this planet and I believe you would still find something about it to feed your dislike for the man. Period.
Just accept that you can't support anything positive he has done or will do......
He is the Commander in Chief after all. Shouldn't he have signed off on this medal? Or should he not micromanage the department? After seeing Hagel stumble and bumble his way through confirmation, it might be a good idea to micromanage the department for a few months.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
Whoa......netdude.
Even LJ was against a medal being given for an act that was far less dangerous than active combat.
Loosen those panties a bit.
I simply qualified that ultimate authority and approval for these kinds of medals lies with the President or the auto President as LJ has described.
I believe there was a consensus that this medal was classified wrong.
I simply stated the presidents level of authority and was accused of being snarky.
I never said that our current President had not presented medals to deserving recipients.
geeeez....you read a bunch into this thread.
Not sure what to think about this new medal however...if you look at the order of precedence on medals at the link you will realize that with the new medal being 9th in precedence it will fall above both the Purple Heart AND the Bronze Star. That's pretty wild.
If you look closely and know a little bit about the medals you will realize that other medals, such as the Legion of Merit, can also be earned without the recipient ever seeing direct combat.
I'm not sure what the big deal is here really. Seems DoD has a few other more pressing issues this week.

The new Distinguished Warefare Medal. This has got thousands of combat veterans up in arms about this. This was also a topic of discussion during the VFW Legislative Conference up on Capitol Hill. Most say the same thing. We understand the military folks that do the drones etc are important, but to award a combat medal and not being in combat that is higher than the Purple Heart and Bronze Star is wrong. Currently House bill HR833 and Senate bill S470 have been introduced to reduce the ranking of the medal below both of those medals.
When the DOD approves a new medal, my understanding of is, that it still goes to the President for his sign off on it. As for him signing all of the medal certificates, not, as LJ stated it is autosigning. Been used for years, even before Obama became President. Some Presidents if present during a ceremony etc do hand out medals, otherwise, most medals are done during brief ceremonies.
