Speaking of tolls, it was announced last night at the Elk Creek Fire Dept BOD meeting that the USFS has said that they are losing 500 firefighters, 50 engines, and potentially some aircraft used to respond to state wildfires due to budget cuts thanks to the sequester. It would be nice if they'd consider that when they keep starting these controlled burns. :smackshead:

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

Interesting, when the Iraq war is brought up as Bush's war, we are reminded over and over again that Democrats voted it and therefore Democrats own it as much as Bush......fast forward to the sequester which may (or may not) have been originally Obama's idea, Republicans voted for it but are disavowing any responsibility for it. So tell me.....why can't the conservatives who keep blaming only Obama give some of that blame to the Republicans? What ever happened to taking responsibility for your actions/votes?

Please correct me if I am wrong on this (I know I can count on you all to do that) but my understanding of the sequester cuts was that they must be across the board and the agencies involved didn't have the discretion to pick and choose where to cut and where not to. Every program had to be cut a certain percentage.

It's called TeaPublican HYPOCRISY...

And yes, I'd like to see the guys who are responsible, (the teabaggers) have it hung around their necks...

Interesting statistic: In the past 21 days, FauxNews has had a segment on the cancelling of the "Tours of the Whitehouse" 158 times...And they've had THREE (3) stories of the impact of the sequester on the poor... Hmmmmmm Imagine my surprise....

SC quoted a source that showed even liberal media obsessed about the White House cuts. But don't worry Obama threw his Secret Service under the bus for the cancelled tours.

Archer, my understanding of it is that those involved in cutting thier budgets are given the choice of where to do the cuts. What I do not like about all this is that Defense Dept has to take the biggest share of it. I keep hearing it is equal across the board, but it is not, DOD has the biggest portion of it. Don't get me wrong though, I have always said DOD could cut money in a lot of areas. Millions are wasted just at the pentagon alone. I even would be willing to bet there is a huge duplication there with jobs. Contractors being held to the contract instead of always increasing the cost. DOD travel costs and we always hear about the DOD finding credit card fraud. I do know that certain programs that deal with the troops welfare are exempt from the cuts, there are plenty of rumors going around as to what will happen with troops health care etc, but haven't seen nothing solid.

My son is getting ready to deploy again beginning of next year. They were sked to go to training (navy we called them workups) for deployment. They were told the training has been cancelled till further notice. Even qualifying at the range with their weapons and maintaining proficiency on them has been reduced. Just getting parts he said is being looked at hard(which is about time, now they actually pay attention what is being ordered instead of just getting something and not being able to use it cause the wrong part).

My personal thought on all this, this is not the president, this is a congress who has been allowed to continue over the years, of doing nothing but whining and crying. Allowed to get away with not following the laws of this land, budget is one issue, and nothing is done to them, except give them pay raises for not doing their jobs they were elected to do. This is both sides.

A lot of these cuts we are seeing are grandstanding plays. You don't see the Forest Service cutting their holiday parties, or furloughing some seed study workers in Missouri. They are going to publicize the cuts that get the most press.
