First the Benghazi "revisions," and then the IRS harassment of conservative not-for-profit groups and now this...

GOVT OBTAINS WIDE AP PHONE RECORDS IN PROBE

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department secretly obtained two months of telephone records of reporters and editors for The Associated Press in what the news cooperative's top executive called a "massive and unprecedented intrusion" into how news organizations gather the news.

The records obtained by the Justice Department listed outgoing calls for the work and personal phone numbers of individual reporters, general AP office numbers in New York, Washington and Hartford, Conn., and the main number for AP reporters in the House of Representatives press gallery, according to attorneys for the AP. It was not clear if the records also included incoming calls or the duration of calls.

In all, the government seized the records for more than 20 separate telephone lines assigned to AP and its journalists in April and May of 2012. The exact number of journalists who used the phone lines during that period is unknown but more than 100 journalists work in the offices where phone records were targeted, on a wide array of stories about government and other matters.

In a letter of protest sent to Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday, AP President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Pruitt said the government sought and obtained information far beyond anything that could be justified by any specific investigation. He demanded the return of the phone records and destruction of all copies.

"There can be no possible justification for such an overbroad collection of the telephone communications of The Associated Press and its reporters.

It looks like those low-level staffers are at it again.

One more non story since MSNBC won't cover it.... let the sheep sleep for a while.

2014 is going to be interesting... Obamacare in full swing with all it's consequences, and all these scandals adding up, the libs are going to be digging through trash cans again hoping to find some dirt to counter. The Republicans are going to have a treasure trove of good material to remind voters how transparent this administration IS NOT.

I was impressed. Although a late breaking story NPR discussed this tonight. "Gov't"? It this had happened under W the story title would have been "Bush White House" After the IRS and AP examples you really think gun owners should trust a registration system? The IRS would audit every registered gun owner and DHS would wiretap them all.

The AP story was just reported on tonight's NBC News (TV).

They also mentioned the "two growing scandals" (Brian Williams' newsread words) of Benghazi and the IRS.

This was all three stories back-to-back. And here I thought this stuff only mattered to Republicans.

And to top it off, they next covered the conviction of the abortion doctor, Dr. Gosnell.

A little update...

Update: The Associated Press says that, in the letter they received from the DOJ on Friday notifying them of the DOJ’s actions, they were offered no explanation for the seizure, but sounds like the AP suspects it had to do with a DOJ investigation into who “leaked information contained in a May 7, 2012, AP story about a foiled terror plot” that disclosed “details of a CIA operation in Yemen that stopped an al-Qaida plot in the spring of 2012 to detonate a bomb on an airplane bound for the United States.”

This is not a good day for the White House. The IRS has been specifically targeting conservative groups; HHS Secretary Sebelius has been extorting money from health industry executives; and now it looks like the DOJ has been seriously meddling into the freedom of the press? No doubt they’ll claim that it was all for the sake of national security and plugging leaks of classified information, or hey, perhaps that this was just a mix-up by some low-level Justice employees, or something… Or maybe they’re going for a, ‘Heck, let’s just overwhelm everybody and air the thugocracy scandals out all at once’-type strategy?

According to the logic displayed from the 285 Bound liberals today on the Benghazi and the IRS scandals... their next talking point will be... "I guess the DOJ has nothing to do with the Obama administration either."

Don't impeach Obama, give him amnesty if he gives evidence against the rogue operators and loose cannons allowed to function under his watch.

All the democrats will need in 2014 is to remind the voters of the Republican promise of a "lazer focus on jobs". If Clinton taught us nothing else, it's that the voters are far more interested in what happens in their wallets than what happens in Washington.

Crappy attempt at deflection... but you're right... most voters are low-information morons who aren't even able to tell you who the VP is. But back on subject... all the GOP will have to do is remind the voters of Nixon (Watergate), Reagan (Iran-Contra), Clinton (MonicaLand) and the fact that it's this administration who has given the IRS the power to administer the financial obligation of Obamacare.

Sure... there's going to be a ton of trust in the Democrats.
