I'm not a Hull Technician but from looking at the photos I'm seeing more evidence of structural failure than an explosion.
Poor loading and weight distribution or maybe resonant frequency of the waves against the hull? Otherwise I'd guess sabotage from within the ship to weaken the hull in critical places.
