Vegas arrests cast light on anti-government ‘sovereign citizens’ movement

A Las Vegas couple who plotted to kidnap and kill police officers are part of a growing movement whose adherents believe they aren’t subject to laws and follow a complex theory about the secret enslavement of American citizens, authorities say.

The couple spent hundreds of hours developing a plot to attract attention to the movement, a cause known as “sovereign citizens,” which holds that police do not have legitimate power, authorities said.

The two shopped for guns, found a vacant house and rigged it to bind captives to cross beams during interrogation, and they planned to subject officers to their form of a trial for civil rights violations, authorities said.

Authorities have linked the “sovereign citizens” movement to the killing of police officers in the past. After two deputies in Louisiana were killed in a shootout last year, police said some of the seven people arrested had ties to the movement.

By day, Ayo Kimathi works for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a small business specialist in a unit that buys such items as handcuffs, ammunition and guns.

Off-duty, he calls himself “the Irritated Genie.” He’s a gay-bashing, revenge-seeking black nationalist who advocates on his website – War on the Horizon – the mass murder of whites and the “ethnic cleansing” of “black-skinned Uncle Tom race traitors.”

“Warfare is eminent,” the website declares, “and in order for Black people to survive the 21st century, we are going to have to kill a lot of whites – more than our Christian hearts can possibly count.”

A former supervisor of Kimathi’s at the DHS told Hatewatch, “Everybody in the office is afraid of him.”

Once the "yeah that's bad, but here is someone who is just as bad" card is played, most threads will die.

Why... do you don't have anything to say about either incident. Something enlightening? I think there is booku bunch of grist for the mill between the two articles.

NYT article today discusses this movement.....seems they use liens to tie up officials (legally or not).....seems to be a growing movement at many levels.

They have more support from misguided citizens than is healthy for this country..... As best I can tell, their goal is a form of anarchy, with few laws and no federal government beyond what is required to maintain the military. It's every state, every citizen, for himself. (yeah, I know, that is an oversimplification)

Define missguided........are they or just fed up......many nations (including USA) have been here before......no telling how this will go. SLA, Weather Underground murdered many and were TERRORISTS who killed innocents......they had a political agenda slimed out of the left wing of the American political spectrum......who knows where this will take us. NOT LOOKING GOOD THESE DAYS.
