If there was any cheating going on it was only possible because of the voting laws that Morse and Giron helped shove through a "progressive" legislative session. Hoisted by their own petards perhaps? Given the new rules, how on earth can you verify if those who voted were actually the people who showed up at the polls given all they had to produce (see earlier post) to be given a ballot were the voter cards mailed to dead people?
Ironic that Jazzer all of a sudden wants to see if any cheating is going on after supporting each and every measure to ensure that cheating is possible and berating those seeking measures to ensure that the people casting ballots are actually who they say they are and that they are eligible to cast a vote, isn't it? How rich would it be if those who registered and voted on the same day were the margin of victory for the defeat of these two party extremists?
I am particularly enjoying that Giron was ousted in a district with a registered voter population that is weighted in favor, by over 20%, of Democrats over Republicans. Nearly half of the registered voters in her district are Democrats, less than a quarter are registered Republicans, and she lost by a 12% margin. When Democrats help throw you out of office because of your extreme views, that says something about just how extreme your views are.
There are days that I am just blown away by the hypocrisy of some on the left.
If they win....there is no voter fraud. If they lose they believe that the only possible way that could have happened is through cheating.
Pick a position and stick with it folks.
The constitution still matters to most folks in this country.
And of course... the Denver Post has to try to minimize and deflect the voting outcome.
We hope the outcome of Tuesday's recall elections closes an ugly chapter in Colorado's political history, an instance when recalls were used against elected officials not for malfeasance or corruption in office but for simply voting their consciences.
Public officials are not asked to vote their conscience, they are asked to represent the will of their constituents. Voting their conscience is what caused the problem to start with.
We have repeatedly said it was inappropriate to launch recalls against Morse and Giron simply for their votes instead of waiting one year for regular elections. It was also a colossal waste of taxpayer money that ran well into six figures.
It was inappropriate for Morse and Giron to act like little dictators and not representatives of their districts.
And since when are liberals concerned about taxpayers money except to demand more of it?
But the voters' will should be respected. Though we opposed the reasoning behind these recalls, we respect their outcomes.
If "the voters' will should be respected" then why did the Post even waste time with this editorial?
Big win since Giron was elected in a Democratic district. Bill Clinton had warned his party before, we lose our own base when you start taking away gun rights.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
My hope is that it sends a message to our current lawmakers that we still have the power of a vote.
I am an eternal optimist. I still believe that people can and will do the right thing when called upon to do so.
We all know the political side of the fence that the Denver Post sits on. No surprise that they would minimize the outcome but none of us should forget that this is a historical event. The first recall of lawmakers in the state. That speaks volumes about how MOST of us really feel.
The handful of frequent posters from the left here are extreme examples of what the left represents. I always try to keep that in mind when reading their posts. I do understand that most on the left are not nearly as extreme as what we see represented here.
