..." Norton said a war resolution will pass not because of the supposed merits of an attack on Syria, but simply "because of loyalty of Democrats" who "just don't want to see (Obama) shamed and humiliated on the national stage."
This is red-versus-blue tribalism in its most murderous form. It suggests that the party affiliation of a particular president should determine whether or not we want that president to kill other human beings. It further suggests that we should all look at war not as a life-and-death issue, but instead as a sporting event in which we blindly root for a preferred political team."...
Ed Asher refused to condemn Obama's escalation of the war in Syria because he didn't want to be thought of as racist. Where are noted peace activists Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn?

Oh I think there will be quite a few Dems and Repubs who will be thinking carefully about this one, especially if they are up for reelection in 2014. Been watching Mitch McConnell dance around on this one.

It is not an easy decision to attack Syria either way, but I expect the President to go forward no matter what America and Congress say.

From Jill Stein, the Green Party's Presidential Candidate, Sep 05:
We've set a goal of 5000 signers of the Peace Voters Pledge
. Please sign now. And then forward the pledge and share it everywhere.
Following is information - a call to action - that I sent out earlier today . . .
Greetings ~
Take action today to urge Congress to vote against authorizing a military attack on Syria. Make members of Congress understand that if they vote to authorize an attack on Syria, their vote would not only be wrong, it would also have political consequences. The Green Shadow Cabinet asks that you:
Pledge for Peace
(1) Take the Peace Voter Pledge. "I pledge that I will not vote to reelect any member of Congress who votes for the Authorization for the Use of Military Force against Syria."
(2) Call Congress. Tell them you took the Peace Voter Pledge, that you "will not vote to reelect any member of Congress who votes for the Authorization for the Use of Military Force against Syria." Tell them why. Call them today and tomorrow at their local offices (click here for directory
). Call them on Monday and next week at their D.C. offices (call the switchboard at 202-224-3121).
(3) Speak Out Online, In the Streets, and Directly. Help build a Thunderclap of online protest against attacking Syria. Join and organize demonstrations in your community. Go directly to meet with your congressional representatives.
Sign the Peace Voter Pledge: Send a message to Congress that they will hear and understand.
"I pledge that I will not vote to reelect any member of Congress who votes for the Authorization for the Use of Military Force against Syria."
Join in making clear that we expect our representatives and senators to represent us. The job of Congress is not to serve (or undermine) the President. Their job is to represent the American people.
If we, the people, support a diplomatic, not a military, response to the Syrian crisis, we have to do our jobs and pledge our votes to peacemaking, not endless war.
Sign the Peace Voter Pledge right now. Then use the hashtag #PledgePeace to spread the word.
Thank you.
There are currently 53,038 signatures
NEW goal - We need 75,000 signatures

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

Aren't we traditionally bad a spotting a bad war before it happens.
See Vietnam, Iraq (x2), Afghanistan, Korea.
What we do is get all wrapped up in the nationalism to the point where we are willing to sacrifice our children and familes and then realize a few years later we were very dumb and did not bother to think about anything beyond nationalism.
I am sure some rich people got even richer off those wars, so perhaps they were justified by those that started them in the end.
We will have an antiwar movement, once it is too late....by the way, it is almost too late.
I say at a minimum, if we have another war, we should have a tax to pay for it start the same day. Perhaps something simple like an additional 25% tax on all income and property until the war is over. I think one of our biggest issues when debating war is that most are not involved, giving up a simple 25% seems like a good way to get skin in the game. I think if we go into Syria we should have another draft too. We need to make sure we feel the war, so we take it more seriously than the last two.
Plus, how can you have an antiwar movement if they cannot get the protesting permits...
