So the conclusion is that this so-called sequester "red line in the sand" was another joke. Similar to the Pres Bipartisan Deficit commission side show? Whatever happened to that?

The politicians have to concentrate on their re-election campaigns so they are kicking the can down the road.
If the Republicans win back the Senate in 2014, then the big cuts can start. Especially if some of the hidebound Rino's have been primaried by fiscal conservatives.

Of course they did. Anyone with eyes could see what was coming. They have Obamacare falling apart in front of the nation to hang their hats on. Why endure bad press when they now stand a chance of taking back some of the Senate?

Exactly. Personally I am surprised Murray and the Dems didn't try to make the compromise bill so toxic that Republicans in good conscience couldn't support it.

Cutting disabled military benefits should be toxic enough imo.

My guess is that those will be restored very soon.

We learned in school that historically Republicans have been the biggest spenders and biggest debtors.

That was all true before Barack Obama, Republican Lite was elected.
Maybe the new group of fiscal conservatives will change that history.
