A federal judge has ruled that Kansas and Arizona should be allowed to require voters to provide evidence of U.S. citizenship, in a case closely watched by both sides dealing with the question of voter eligibility.
U.S. District Judge Eric Melgren in Wichita, Kan., ruled that the U.S. Election Assistance Commission had no legal authority to deny requests from the two states to add the citizenship requirement. “This is a huge victory for the states of Kansas and Arizona,” Kobach said in a prepared statement emailed to reporters. “They have successfully protected our sovereign right to set and enforce the qualifications for registering to vote. We have now paved the way for all 50 states to protect their voter rolls and ensure that only U.S. citizens can vote.”
“Today’s decision is an important victory for the people of Arizona against the Obama administration, assuring that only Arizona residents and not illegals vote in Arizona elections,” Arizona Atty. Gen. Tom Horne said in a statement.

There was a story out of Florida today where a network compared foreign nationals who were listed on the voter rolls but said they weren't legal citizens for jury duty. So who registered them and were they voting for them?

The body of 49-year old Pia Farrenkopf was discovered in her garage on March 5, sitting in the backseat of her Jeep Liberty. It was found by a contractor who was going through the house since it’s being foreclosed on.
Although her remains are believed to be at least six years old, records in Oakland County show Farrenkopf voting in the 2010 gubernatorial election between Republican Rick Snyder and Democrat Virg Bernero.

Clearly Pia the mummy was driven to the polls that day since LJ says voter fraud is a myth, why else would she be in the back seat? And everybody knows mummies can't drive with dried up raisins in their eye sockets.

Of course W****, those registrations only apply to voting in state elections. Kansas and Arizona will still have to enable those who want to vote in federal elections to be registered to vote for federal offices. Kansas and Arizonia will be forced to maintain two separate databases, one for state elections and one for federal elections. They will have to print two separate ballots in federal elections, one for federal offices and another for state and local offices and referendums. They probably will have to have three databases, one for those already registered, one for those registered under citizenship requirements and a third for those who are registered for federal elections only. This will greatly increase the cost of elections in those states.
The judged did not rule on whether requiring the proof of citizenship was constitutional, only that the federal agency did not have authority to prevent states from adding those additional requirements for local elections.
I also question on whether it will be constitutional to place burdens on those registering to vote for the first time that are not placed on those who are already registered to vote.
