Can You Define 'Systematic Racism'?

24 Apr 2021 09:40 #11 by FredHayek
They polled African-Americans and Hispanics before President Obama ran for president and asked if they thought America was a racist nation. Most didn't think so.
Now polls say they do think it is racist. Has racism got worse in the last twenty years? Or are minorities finally willing to reveal to pollsters their real feelings? Or has the media convinced minority groups that racism is a problem when it has actually been improving for years?

Do you think racism is worse now than it was twenty years ago?

You asked us to define 'Systematic Racism' and I found a really well-written article defining both systematic and systemic racism. But you want it in my own words.

Would define systematic racism as something like Apartheid in South Africa, or like Blacks were thought of at the time of the U.S. independence, meaning they were recognized as "other persons." It didn't change until the 13th Amendment was put into place in 1865.

I grew up in the South (Texas) in the 50s and 60s. Back then, segregation was practiced almost everywhere. There were signs about "colored" people and "n*groes." Many theaters were segregated, with blacks having to sit in the balcony. There were three movie theaters in the Texas town I spent my early childhood. Two were whites only and the other was segregated. I went to white schools through my senior year. We never played sports against black schools. I saw plenty of racism then.

Today, things have changed. There are no longer posted signs, but many things remain unspoken. When I dated a black woman in the 70s in Kansas City, we went to a movie and sat together in the middle of theater. Other white couples actually got up and moved away from us. That was the first time in my life I had an inkling of what it's like to be on the other side.

I made the observation that the lowest rung of whites (uneducated or poorly educated) seem to me the be the ones who are the most racist. I think that is because they need someone they deem "below them" to hassle and to feel superior to.

Racism still exists, IMO. So does anti-Semitism. But that's another discussion.

Just curious Wayne, do you have any proof of who is the most racist and how many of them we have in this country? I here these claims all the time but only get the anecdotal stories and no statistical data to prove the assumptions. You say poor uneducated whites "seem" to be the most racist... that is obviously opinion and not fact. It's interesting to me that those who scream racism the most often are often the same people who use racist generalizations to paint large groups of people as racists. I guess some people just can't see that hypocrisy.

Your article is truly funny! So if African Americas are assaulting Asian Americans, it is the fault of White Supremacists? Pure silliness in their words. Maybe instead it is the fault of the people carrying out the attacks on Asians?

HA, do you think the Blacks who assault Asians shouldn't be prosecuted for their crimes? Because they are such a simple race that they can't control their actions? And they are controlled by White Supremacists beaming thoughts of hate into their minds.

Your lack of understanding of human nature is stunning. The term hierarchy...what does it mean to U?

EVERY species has a hierarchy....humans included. Someone/thing has to be "low position on the totem pole"

Let's clarify the philosophy of white supremacy .....

If you were to take a wild guess (or maybe you have actual data?), what percentage of white people are white supremacists? I would then ask you how many black people think they are superior to white people? I have no idea personally, because the number of people I know isn't large enough to make that kind of assessment. I 100% believe that nobody knows those answers, yet the people who love to divide us act like they do.
