CUTOFF at the box canyon...to use an old western term....or for the "forward thinking" ..F.U. Putin.

“We wanted to put these actions in place before our markets open because what we learned over the course of the weekend from our allies and partners was the Russian Central Bank was attempting to move assets and there would be a great deal of asset flight starting on Monday morning from institutions around the world,” the official said, on a conference call with reporters.

“Our strategy to put it simply is to make sure that the Russian economy goes backward. As long as President Putin decides to go forward with his invasion of Ukraine,” the official added.

Politicians like to make grand gestures to show they support an ally like Ukraine but often they are just window dressing.
For example right now, the international bankers are trying to restrict Russian access to their deposits overseas. Bravo, right? But the US is still buying millions of barrels of Russian oil and natural gas. So Russia is still getting money to fund their invasion.

...unless the bank shutdowns and other measures prevent Russian oil from getting to western markets? Currently a Russian tanker that was scheduled to make a stop in Scotland has been refused access. If this happens in the US too, will our energy prices get even higher? Russia, Saudia Arabia, and the US are the three biggest energy suppliers in the world right now. What happens when one supplier is locked out?

Might want to fill up today.

Might also want to take out some extra cash. So far Russian hackers have been only mildly attacking the West. What happens when an angry Putin has them go to war on America and Europe? Will banks get DOS attacks?

You're right Fred, definitely not a "checkmate" until all western countries truly take a stand and stop buying his oil which is extracted with much dirtier means. The US could really take a strong stand and help our allies by doing what we do very well, DRILL BABY DRILL!!! Yeah, I know, that's unlikely given the power of the hard left over their puppet.

Hillary talking about cyber attacks on Russia, so she obviously has a very short memory or isn't thinking very clearly... no surprise there.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

A 40 mile long convoy headed to the capital... no checkmate yet. Too bad Ukraine doesn't have much air support, that's a nice long and slow target.

I would like you to clarify your last post. MiG jets are Made in Russia. I read your post saying that the Ukranian pilots are going to Poland to pick up jets made in Russia? In that Poland is part of NATO why would they have MiG jets? What is the source of your claim?

When the Warsaw Pact was still in operation, Mig's were sold or delivered to Eastern European states. And former Soviet states like the Baltics.
Russia also sells Mig's around the world, Arab nations, India. Usually cheaper than buying US or Euro combat aircraft.

A lot of the Ukraine-Russia war is being fought with equipment made from the 50's to the 1990's. Ancient! Must constantly be breaking down.

EU promises 90 planes to Ukraine. 28 Mig-29's from Poland. Most are coming from Bulgaria, 20 Mig-29' and 20 Su-25's.

Have to think NATO military intelligence is going to love getting combat data on this equipment. Usually Russia only sells special export models that are missing top end capabilities. (The Russians don't want to wind up fighting them later, like if the Warsaw Pact had mutinied.)

The people of Ukraine really don't have time for slow results. Putin could destroy the two biggest cities pretty quickly without good defense air power. Sanctions will not save lives at in the short term.

Putin has a history of being a bully when oil prices are high and the Biden administration helped him with that immediately after being elected.
