A Nonpartisan Top 4 Primary is used to determine the top four vote getters that will advance to the General Election, regardless of political affiliation. In accordance with Alaska’s laws, a primary election candidate does not have to be a member of a political party or a political group, to run for office. If a candidate is registered as affiliated with a political party or group, it does not imply the candidate is nominated by, endorsed by, approved of, or associated with that particular party or group. Currently, there is one primary ballot.
The above is from the elections site of the State of Alaska. elcetions.alaska.gov
On the primary ballot the party affiliation of the candidate will not be shown, it will in the final election.
It should be noted that that the primary is a mail-in only election.

In the 2020 General Election, voters approved an initiative to establish a Nonpartisan Top Four Primary Election system and a Ranked Choice Voting General Election system.
The sample ballot, on this site, shows the candidate's name and party affiliation if so chosen by the candidate. To me, name recognition in a ranked voting system will be very valuable. Most voters have their favorite and don't put much thought into a second, third and fourth choice.
In this scenario, 3 republican candidates and 1 democrat could be on the final ballot, which will be by Aug 16th.
This voting law was put in place in 2020 and this will be its first test.
There will also be a primary election on Aug 16 (the normal course ahd not Rep. Young died and created the vacancy).
Finally, whomever wins on August 16th will sit only until the November 2022 election.
After all that, Sarah Palin will emerge as the Representative of the State of Alaska.
With 50 other candidates splitting the vote, I think she has a good chance to be one of the four. Plus she will get campaign donations from the rest of America.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
n the race to fill the House seat left vacant by the late Rep. Don Young, Palin is no shoo-in. Though she once enjoyed sky-high public approval ratings in Alaska, her reputation deteriorated after she resigned from the governorship in 2009 — a self-inflicted wound from which she has not seemed to recover.
When the longtime Alaska pollster Ivan Moore of Alaska Survey Research tested Palin’s standing with Alaskans in October, he said her favorability rating stood at 31 percent.
“Let’s face it,” Moore said Saturday. “She has been substantively underwater for many, many years now, and it really dates back to when she quit.”
ASK AN ALASKAN......they r tired of her triteness.
So who is this mysterious Republican candidate that everybody in Alaska loves and who will beat Palin?
I think this kind of talk is hilarious considering Kamala Harris is VP when her support among the Democrats was so low that she only lasted about 10 minutes in the primaries.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
Alaska is ready for a classic MAGA v. SWAMP contest. Palin v. Begich
As discussed earlier, Alaska has an open primary, there were about 48 candidates, the top 4 will proceed to a run off. The winner of the August election will serve out the remainder of Rep Young's term expiring Jan 2023. Whomever wins the August election will then be running for re-election in Nov 2022.
