Another moderate bites the dust. At least he's smart enough to understand he is no longer viable in West Virginia and will walk away before he gets humiliated like Liz Cheney. There is no middle folks, it's either continue down the path to socialism/communism or try to crawl back to prosperity and sane border security.

It should be a layup for a Republican to take his place, but we can never be sure Republicans won't screw this up, again.

You have to like an octogenarian who knows when to retire! Hopefully he inspires more of his fellow ancient, colleagues!

Manchin still has his cognitive faculties while others in congress and the WH really shouldn't be working anymore. Joe isn't leaving because he's old, he's leaving because there is no place for him to go. He could try some kind of 3rd party plan, but what would that party even look like? What mix of right wing and left wing principles could create a party that would attract enough people. Left and right ideas today are like oil and water... they will never mix and will always seperate no matter how hard you shake the jar.

Manchin, and probably Romney too, believe that the extremists in each party have too much power. I could see a centrist campaign that features 20 week abortion bans, limiting foreign aid, rules against congressional insider trading, could work.

Unfortunately both Joe and Mitt are on the Ukraine gravy train, and also wouldn't want to limit their own insider trading.

Two losers together don't make a winning candidacy but I'll have a good laugh when they are rejected, again.

Losers? A moderate Republican, Romney managed to win in a conservative Utah. Manchin? Call him a loser if you must but he kept getting reelected in a very deep red state.

Romney is retiring because he is facing a serious primary threat and I believe would have lost. Manchin retiring because he would have run against Jim Justice the outgoing Republican governor and polls show that he would have been trounced. West Va does not allow the ballot harvesting that is so prominent in blue states.
In passing what is your definition of a moderate Republican?

You’re talking about a different time. You also fail to remember how weak Romney was against Obama. You need to understand that Democrats fight to win, even if their methods go against the norms. Republicans like Romney don’t want to stir up the water to much and don’t want to offend anyone so guys like him get walked on like a door mat. The time for niceties is over, Fred. The enemy uses worthless Republicans like Romney and Liz Cheney to attack their biggest threats and that’s really all you need to know about them.

Who’s going to be excited about voting for Romney or Manchin? Who is their base other than those who suffer from TDS or the small percentage of Democrats who don’t think babies should be aborted at 9 months or that 12 year old Johnny should take female hormones to affirm his and his teacher’s delusions?

You need to catch up to what Republican voters want NOW… we want a fighter not someone who’s going to grab their ankles every time the Dems scream to compromise.

By picking Trump? He supports abortion rights. He gave a medal to Dr. Fauci. He considers Operation Warp Speed a huge accomplishment. Trump isn't a true conservative.

I'm voting for Truimp if he's the Republican nominee and I'll vote for any other Republican if he is not the nominee. Nobody knew Fauci was a fraud until we were able to see all the facts. Trump is also not a scientist and had to "trust the science", even though it was later found to be bullshit science. Again, how was Trump supposed to know and what would have happened if he rejected what the scientists were sayong at the time? Trump may not have been a perfect conservative but he's smart enough to know that abortion can't be banned because not enough people in this country value hiuman life.

You can feel good about voting for a 3rd party loser, but you''ll aslo have to live with helping the Democrats continue their destruction of our economy and foreign relations. Think of how all those righteous Jill Stein voters felt when they helped to elect Trump in 2016... your choice.
