Other Republicans say the House speaker drama reflects a broader problem for the party, one that has been metastasizing for decades. Depending on how you look at it, almost every Republican speaker since Newt Gingrich in the mid-1990s has been pushed out or has stepped down over deep ideological splits within the party between moderates and the hard right.

Then there’s the Republican presidential primary, where the front-runner is a candidate who has been twice impeached (including with votes from members of his own party), is facing 91 criminal charges, could face jail time and has been ruled by the Colorado Supreme Court as ineligible to appear on that state’s primary ballot.

“The party has been damaged for years,” said one Republican strategist, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations with
party leaders. “And it’s not recoverable.”

THE TRUTH.....toasted for a very long time and "it's not recoverable". Time for a third party to enter into the arena.

THE MOST EXTREME VIEWS......political posturing to the point of radical and riotous practices. MY BROTHER has morphed into this paranoid position....I don't even recognize him anymore. He is always ranting on Facebook and has been on probation status many times....(my DH is on Facebook, I am not) so I get to hear the vomit he spews out. His stockpile of weapons and ammo is impressive and his rhetoric is
rebellion and rage.

Disagree. Every one in America deserves a voice and guess what? Trump is not "Hard Right". He is a populist. The majority of Americans want less illegal immigration. So does President Trump.
If Trump was a hard right winger like Representative Thomas Massie, he would have downsized government, instead it expanded during his term with record spending.

HA, please define the "most extreme views" that are on the far right that have a significant influence on anything that matters. I'm serious, I never hear the definition other than not wanting to kill baby humans. Sorry, I don't find that an extreme position, I find that to be a question of morality where there are only moral answers.

Is it extreme to want the open border closed and to force all immigrants to be vetted through proper legal channels?

Is it extreme to want affordable energy for poor and middle class families who are struggling to survive?

What are the extremes you speak of?

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

THERE,RIGHT THERE is the glaring gap of credibility. and comprehension. I am 77 y.o., OVER 3/4 OF A CENTURY.....I have witnessed many major events that have defined our nation and our government.,but JANUARY 6TH is the incomprehensible apex of "extreme"....."where r u Pence,oh Pence where r u,we are looking for u" (image Jack Nicholson's maniacal face in The Shining)....observe the hide and horned "hero"
that was roaming thru the "house of the people", see the throng that seeking Pelosi (let's have a hanging)
observe the "extreme" mindset of the mob and then tell me THAT does NOT DEFINE "far right". I AM OUTRAGED that this incident is being described as innocent and peaceful demonstration...what a delusional
piece of bull shit. IF u (collectively) subscribe to that idea, then WE,as a nation, r beyond help. We r lost and
will perish.

HA, I can appreciate the fact that you've lived 77 years, but in my 61 years, I've also seen plenty.

I asked you to list the extreme views of the right. If you're going to use Jan 6th as an extreme view, you should use a little perspective. Of the crowd, how many were charged with any kind of violence? How many were charged with insurrection? How many were charged with murder? Then count how many people were charged just for being there and doing nothing more than trespass. Compared to the entire right wing of this country, those numbers are microscopic and can not be used to paint us all, not if you're honest anyway.

It's like me pointing out the 500+ leftist riots that destroyed billions in businesses and permanently damaged the cities they infested. If I told you that you were part of that problem, I would be lying, but those people are on your side.

I'm talking about universally agreed on principles of the right and the left. The Jan 6th riot does not represent the right, just like your street animals don't represent the left. Watch any mass looting video and tell me how many of those people look like MAGA Republicans...

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Some 378 individuals have been sentenced to periods of incarceration over their involvement in the January 6, 2021, uprising at the U.S. Capitol in the 32 months since the attempted overthrow of the 2020 election certification took place, the District of Columbia's attorney's office said on Wednesday.

More than 1,146 people hailing from all 50 states and the capital have been charged with a variety of alleged offenses in relation to their presence at the grounds of Congress that day, though the FBI noted recently that there were seven named individuals who had absconded from the law while facing charges.

The Department of Justice's (DOJ) Washington D.C. office said in its latest update that 623 people had received sentences—though not all had been handed periods of incarceration—while around 657 individuals had pleaded guilty to federal charges, "many of whom faced or will face incarceration at sentencing."

Jan 6 split

Ethan Nordean, 32, of Auburn, Washington, was sentenced to 18 years in prison and 36 months of supervised release. A member of the far-right Proud Boys group, he was found guilty of multiple felonies including conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding.
Dominic Pezzola, 45, of Rochester, New York, also a member of Proud Boys, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 36 months of supervised release. The group is thought to have also helped organize the uprising.
Joseph Randall Biggs, 39, of Ormond Beach, Florida, was sentenced to 17 years in prison and 36 months of supervised release. The DOJ described him as a former Proud Boys leader and was found guilty of multiple felonies including seditious conspiracy.

Regardless of how you feel about the capital riot, how exactly has that event hurt Americans? How has it hurt you? There was 1.5 million in damage that day, where as the 2020 summer rights caused over 1 BILLION in damage and took 18 lives.

I contend that the hosing of Americans comes with policies that make American lives more difficult. Please show my how those rioters of 4 years ago are somehow still hurting you and other Americans.

U don't get it..the.INNER psyche has been altered (the mental damage of what AMERICA HAS BECOME) is
a mind bender, just like Sept. 11t, FOREVER altered our understanding of safe and secure (the concept was bogus in the first place, but we believed in unicorns and rainbows). Jan 6th was just as horrifying, watching "the people's house" being disrespected, destroyed, deluged with a riotous ,rebellious crowd of clowns, who thought THEY could destroy the founding fathers principles of governing. (mass murders r another subject that has destroyed our INNER beings...but we will not even attempt THAT subject) HARD RIGHT has
taken a toll on EVERY aspect of this nation. JMO
