Intuitive Machines' lunar lander riding on the SpaceX Falcon9, successfully landed on the moon yesterday. It is the first private commercial venture to do so. It is the first lunar landing by a U.S. flagged spacecraft since 1972.
Musk neither owns nor manages Intuitive Machines. Is it correct that Musk only provided the booster to send the lander into earth orbit? Why is this a first for Musk?
SHORT TRANSMISSION .seems a little short sighted ,since a gaziilion dollars were spent to get her up.
However, the moon lander cannot survive a frigid night on the moon because there are no heaters on board to keep its electronics at operating temperature. Scientists expect observations to continue as long as the battery holds out, until a handful of hours after sunset.
Space X provided the propulsion via a Falcon 9 rocket which got the lunar lander to the moon. NASA could not build a big enough slingshot.
Space X is a privately held company created by Elon Musk.
Do you know of anyone else who has had success in getting a lunar lander to the moon?
You would benefit from reading HA's citation from Space.com
Shortsightedly HA quotes the only hypothetical raised regarding the lunar lander. This landing is why experiments are done to test a hypothesis.
Yes, I acknowledged that SpaceX, owned by Musk, sent the lander to moon orbit, but it was Intuitive Machines that put the lander onto the surface. I just found it peculiar that you cited Musk for a "first", but not Intuitive Machines.
Why do you find that peculiar?
Multiple companies want to put their equipment on the moon. Only one, SpaceX, can provide the where withal to get there. A deal was struck between the two companies.
I am not disputing that fact. I find it peculiar that you would single out Musk for a "first," since it was obviously a team effort by Intuitive Machines and SpaceX. Musk just provided the bus that got the Intuitive Machines passenger to moon orbit. Intuitive Machines did the rest, and wow, that was pretty awesome successfully landing on the moon.
Even someone with such concrete thinking knows that Elon Musk is the prima mobilia of Space X, Tesla, X, The Boring Company, PayPal, Neuralink, et. al.
Of course it is a team effort, that is obvious.
"Musk just provided the bus" certainly you can appreciate how ludicrous this statement is.

WHEN u spend a gazillion dollars,u would think u would want to gather as much intel as possible....A heater
could have yielded a vast variety of factors....all the more to understand how to execute the next attempt JMO.
