WASHINGTON (AP) — Confusion and chaos loom as hundreds of thousands of federal employees begin their workweek on Monday facing a deadline from President Donald Trump’s cost-cutting chief, Elon Musk, to explain their recent accomplishments or risk losing their jobs.
Musk’s unusual demand has faced resistance from several key U.S. agencies led by the president’s loyalists — including the FBI, State Department, Homeland Security and the Pentagon — which instructed their employees over the weekend not to comply. Lawmakers in both parties said that Musk’s mandate may be illegal, while unions are threatening to sue.

absolutely agree.......except THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH EXECUTION. u keep forgetting I have been thru this process before...and what will transpire is EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED....experience ALWAYS is the equalizer....
I've seen estimates that the goal is to trim roughly 2 million from the headcount as a first step to "right size" the number of people employed by the federal government begins. Roughly 75K took the buyout, and there have been some other resignations, so they're about 1.9 million short of the initial goal.
I don't think Elon quite grasps the concept that federal government employees have spent their entire careers filling squares, so having to fill a few more isn't really an incentive to leave.
