Lumber, gypsum for drywall and home appliances are expected to be impacted by tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China.
The new tariffs could increase builder costs anywhere from $7,500 to $10,000 per home, said Rob Dietz, chief economist at the National Association of Home Builders, citing estimates from U.S. homebuilders. The greatest impact to homebuilders will be from lumber cost increases, which are expected to total about $4,900 per home on average, according to Leading Builders of America.
Which, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here, the US could address by allowing the overgrown, fire prone, federally managed forests to be logged by domestic lumber companies to keep the price of lumber down. Against competition, the Canadian lumber companies would have to reduce their prices, and reduce them further still due to the tariffs, to compete against a domestic market, which would also help balance the current trade deficit of the United States and Canada.
The United States has an abundance of timber resources that are more than adequate to meet our domestic timber production needs, but heavy-handed Federal policies have prevented full utilization of these resources and made us reliant on foreign producers. Our inability to fully exploit our domestic timber supply has impeded the creation of jobs and prosperity, contributed to wildfire disasters, degraded fish and wildlife habitats, increased the cost of construction and energy, and threatened our economic security. These onerous Federal policies have forced our Nation to rely upon imported lumber, thus exporting jobs and prosperity and compromising our self-reliance. It is vital that we reverse these policies and increase domestic timber production to protect our national and economic security.
Seems there's a method to the madness after all . . .
Man, that would really suck if we had to use our own people and our own resources instead of paying Canada for lumber.

Don’t worry HA, I’m sure the lumber industry isn’t looking for old people to harvest trees. It’s also not rocket science and those are not jobs that only Pedro and Jose are willing to do. More jobs for Americans is a good thing, unless you’re a globalist scumbag that wants this country to be weakened and controlled.

Do you believe taxpayers should be funding garbage and corruption? Should we be funding trans mice experiments? You’ve still never addressed any of that crap they are discovering. You beef is with who is finding the corruption and waste, not the actual corruption and waste.
