TRUST NO ONE.....X FILES NOTE

Late last week, I attended the memorial service for Officer David Rose, who was killed when a gunman, motivated by anti-vaccine conspiracy theories, attacked the CDCopens in a new tab or window on August 8. In this direct assault on a federal agency, the gunman fired 500 rounds at CDC -- nearly 200 of which struck six buildingsopens in a new tab or window, including the one where I work. In the 2 weeks since, national media coverage has been short-lived and President Trump has yet to make a statement.

But I still recall it as if it were yesterday.

Inside the Attack

At 4:48 p.m. that Friday, I heard a high-pitched banging sound behind me. Sitting at my desk, I turned to look out my window and saw nothing. I stepped into the hallway to see if others had noticed. Everything seemed calm. Then the sound came again.

I walked to the large, floor-to-ceiling windows facing the main road. Below, I saw daycare staff frantically ushering children inside. One woman was sprinting while carrying two toddlers.

A colleague approached me and asked, "Were those gunshots?" I replied, "I don't know, but the daycare thinks so." Another person near us thought it might be construction.

I kept scanning the ground outside, assuming that if there were a shooter, he'd be on the street. Then I realized it wasn't safe to be near the windows. I moved toward the center of the building.

A colleague walked towards me having just gotten off the elevator, smiling -- she hadn't heard anything. When she asked what was going on, I said, "gunshots."

Moments later, more deafening bangs. But they were different this time. They were hitting our building.

Metal. Glass. Shattering.

We dropped to the ground and scrambled to the opposite side of the building. Then we heard noises in the stairwell. We told everyone: "Get into offices. Lock the doors."

I joined three colleagues in a small office. With the sudden, unexpected strength you only hear about when people find themselves in true emergencies, we pushed a full bookshelf to block the door. We turned off the lights and sat silently on the floor.

I started messaging my team and our leadership group: "Shots fired -- possibly in the building. Take cover." Many had already left for the day.

Then I began texting my family: "I'm sheltering in place. Barricaded. There may be a shooter in the building."

We waited in silence until the gunfire stopped. Desperate for information, we scoured the news on our phones. Still no alerts from CDC. A colleague noticed Emory University had issued an active shooter alert, but it didn't mention the CDC. Social media said the shooter was on Emory's campus. This turned out to be false.

Finally, about 25 minutes later, at 5:13 PM, a colleague received a CDC alert: "ACTIVE SHOOTER reported near Roybal Campus. Roybal Campus is on lockdown. Get to safety ASAP."

I never received it. My personal phone -- registered with CDC -- remained silent. My work phone was still in my windowed office.

News reports began coming in. About an hour into our lockdown, we learned the shooter was dead. A DeKalb County police officer had been shot. Rumors of a second gunman spread. We stayed in place for another hour.

At around 6:45 p.m., we cautiously emerged. I returned to my office to grab my belongings -- and that's when I saw the damage. Broken windows. Bullet holes. The window I had stood by earlier -- while I contemplated whether we were under attack -- had been hit multiple times. At least two bullets had come through. They were on the floor, just outside my door.

Then, for the first time, we heard a PA announcement: "Stay where you are. Marshals will be coming floor by floor to escort you."

We waited again. Eventually, they reached us. Hands up, we exited. Around 15 heavily armed Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) officers had arrived. We were told we couldn't leave yet -- we'd be escorted down in small groups and held in a conference room as the building was cleared.

I asked if there really was a second shooter. One SWAT member replied, "There are often reports like that. We take them seriously. That's why we're sweeping every floor." They also confirmed a bomb squad was assisting and that the fallen officer had died.

In the conference room, around 200 of us waited in the dark. Eventually, the lights came on, and the SWAT team provided updates. The entire campus had to be cleared. The FBI was en route and might want to interview us.

At 8:53 p.m., I received my first text from CDC on my personal phone: an accountability alert asking if I was safe. At 10:00 p.m., we were told we would be released soon -- but the daycare children would be evacuated first. There were reportedly 92 children who had to be transported to another location on busses and reunited with their parents. We were also told we may be questioned by the FBI because our building was one of the active crime scenes.

Then, around 11:00 p.m., our building was finally cleared. We were allowed to leave.

Fueled By Disinformation

According to news reportsopens in a new tab or window, the gunman was fueled by vaccine disinformation. Convinced that the COVID-19 vaccine caused his physical ailmentsopens in a new tab or window, he sought revenge. Though all available information indicates that he acted alone, his beliefs are not unique -- they are shared by countless others misled by rampant vaccine disinformation online.

This disinformation is now being amplified from the highest levels of the government. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has spent years fueling anti-vaccine sentiment. As chairman of Children's Health Defense, he led one of the most prominent anti-vaccine organizations in the world. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, Children's Health Defense was identified as a leading sourceopens in a new tab or window of misinformation on social media, and since the pandemic, Kennedy has been identified as one of the "Disinformation Dozen, opens in a new tab or window" a group of anti-vaxxers responsible for almost two-thirds of digital misinformation about vaccines.

In his short time since taking office, Kennedy has dismantled key pillars of public health. He unilaterally withdrewopens in a new tab or window COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for pregnant women and children; fired all members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practicesopens in a new tab or window, replacing them with several people known to hold anti-vaccine viewsopens in a new tab or window; and refused to strongly endorseopens in a new tab or window measles vaccination. Just days before the gunman attacked CDC, Kennedy canceled $500 millionopens in a new tab or window in mRNA vaccine research, citing debunked safety concernsopens in a new tab or window and expressing skepticism about efficacyopens in a new tab or window.

In a matter of months, our health "leaders" have left a trail of chaos and a crippled public health infrastructure. Public health will continue to be under attack until this situation changes. Kennedy is not fit to lead HHS. The highest levels of government have remained silent. For all of our safety, this cannot go on.

THEY WERE THE LUCKY ONES....MANY YEARS AGO I READ THE FIRST HAND ACCOUNT OF THE COLO.CENTENNIAL THEATER SHOOTING, AN OFFICER WAS DESPERATELY LOADING VICTIMS INTO HIS SQUAD CAR ,AS MANY AS HE COULD (AMBULANCES WERE DOING THE SAME)...AS HE DROVE AWAY HE DESCRIBER ED HOW HE COULD HEAR THE SLOOSHING OF BLOOD IN THE BACK OF THE

You presume where you shouldn't on this subject HA - just because you have never dealt with an active shooter event doesn't mean every person on this board hasn't, or that no conservatives haven't. There are fathers who lost their children in a school mass shooting who hold the exact same position as I do, and they have lived it, and with the consequences of it. Not everyone is as fragile as Hogg or Mauser after all.

Andrew Pollack, whose daughter Meadow was killed when a gunman opened fire at her school in Parkland in 2018. "They didn’t learn anything from what happened in Texas at that school shooting, they didn’t learn anything from what happened in Parkland at that shooting, they didn’t learn anything from what happened at Sandy Hook. When you focus on just gun control this is what happens. It’s happened again. There’s gun laws in place, there’s so many gun laws in place. If they don’t have a background, not one gun law is going to make a difference. You can’t focus on guns. Nothing gets done."

Do I need to provide you a list of all of the mass shooters who passed their background checks to buy the weapons they used in their attacks? We can start right here in Colorado with the Aurora Theater, travel on down to Florida for the Parkland shooting, out to Las Vegas and that shooter. Not to mention, though I will, background checks wouldn't have stopped Columbine either because all of their weapons were purchased in violation of existing laws, so what difference would one more have made to murderers who plan their attacks for month, years, in advance of their deed?

Speaking of Columbine . . . ever heard of Patrick Neville? Survivor of that day in 1999 and the former minority leader in the Colorado House? He lived through the experience and introduced a bill, which went nowhere, to allow concealed carry in Colorado Schools. This is what he said to NPR during an interview in 2018 . . . "Well, many of my friends - to correct to you - I would say actually came out and supported my policy. I had quite a few friends and colleagues from Columbine High School who came out and testified in favor of my bill. I've met many of them just through this process. So I think there are some out there. There's people on both sides of the issue, just like there is with any other issue. But I'd point to the fact that we really haven't seen this problem in our schools until Americans adopted gun-free-zone policies throughout the states. And that's what's actually contributed - not the only cause, but contributed to this happening."

You misunderstand the concept of a law HA. Laws will not prevent a crime from happening. Laws exist as a means to provide punishment for violating the rights of others. Rapists are not prevented from raping a victim because there is a law against rape. Speeders are not prevented from speeding because there is a law against speeding. Murderers, especially mass murderers, are not deterred by the laws against murder.

Having made the decision to kill as many people as possible, do you really think a law which requires a background check or prevents the sale of new models of a rifle when there are between 20 and 40 million of those rifles in circulation is an impediment?

When the specifications for the lower receiver are already circulating for 3D printers? You print one out of plastic and use that as the positive for a mold, buy a hunk of aluminum, or copper & tin for brass, and cast as many as you wish. You ban take a billet of aluminum and machine it out using a CNC, or use nothing more than a drill press & some tooling. You don’t need a background check to buy a gun barrel, magazine, trigger group, or any other part for a rifle.

The genie is out of the bottle HA, has been for a century now. Technology is making home manufacturing easier, not more difficult. Mass murders plan their actions months, sometimes years, in advance. How much planning went into Las Vegas, Columbine, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, Pulse Nightclub.

Freedom isn’t safe, never has been, never will be. You and I are safe from harm for only the length of time that both of us decide the other will be safe. The laws exist to punish the one who decides that others in the society are no longer safe, not to prevent them from acting upon that decision.

That's the point . . . you can't close the loopholes, there's no way to close the loopholes and remain true to the Constitution. The right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental right, not a civil right, in this Union of ours. It is there to ensure that The People retain their right to defend themselves and their liberty from any who would threaten either.

One might argue in light of the Bruen decision that the 1986 FOPA law outlawing the sale or possession of any post-1986 automatic weapon is itself unconstitutional given there is nothing in our history which has prohibited the citizens of this Union access to the same, or even superior, caliber of arms that are in the hands of a general foot soldier in the Union's army prior to the passage of that law 40 years ago. The federal government itself sold, as surplus, arms of similar operation, power, and capacity, of the AR-15 to the general public as recently as 2011 when the last sale of M1 Carbines was held through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) . . . which ironically enough, is conducted through the NRA. The government has been selling surplus weapons of war to the general public since the end of the Civil War . . . that's the history and tradition of our ordered system of governance.

There are at least 20 million, and probably closer to 40 million, AR-15s in circulation right now, most of them probably accompanied by anywhere between 3 and 10 30-round magazines. The People in this Union of ours have been making their own firearms for going on 300 years. You can't outlaw something that has been happening for that long without trampling on the Constitution and its guarantee that the government may not infringe on the right of The People to keep and bear arms. Oh sure, the government can probably require the maker inscribe it with a unique serial number, and even pass a background check to legally possess the arm they themselves manufactured, but such laws would only come into play after they were violated and the self-manufactured weapon was used to commit mass murder.

How hard do you think it is to make a gun barrel out of round stock HA? Are you going to pass a law that makes it necessary to pass a background check to buy 3 feet of stainless steel round stock to close a loophole? How difficult is it to take that round stock and put a hole down the center of it, ream a chamber for a specific type of ammunition, and thread the end of the steel? Are you going to be passing laws that require a background check to buy that tooling? One requiring you to pass a background check before you can buy a reloading press, dies, brass, powder, and projectiles?

Do you see the level of minutia that would be necessary to "close all of the loopholes" and how trying to go down that road would inevitably violate the right of The People to keep and bear arms?

AND 3 D GUNS??? THAT WAS IN THE FRAMERS DOCS?

n December 2024, UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was allegedly killed with a printed pistol and printed silencer.[24] The gun appears to be a "Chairmanwon V1", a minor tweak of the 2021 Glock design "FMDA 19.2" published by Deterrence Dispensed and The Gatalog.[25][26]
