I really don’t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can’t and don’t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with. I will never believe that one negates the other and that my experience of that person, I don’t get to keep and cherish to come back to our earlier thing. I just don’t think these things are either or. I think it’s my deepest wish that I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me and I hope I can keep loving people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with. That’s a very, very important way for me, that I need to be able to move through life.

This is Emma Watson, champion of all things trans, speaking about her relationship with JK Rowling, who is a champion of women. Now, in the wake of the past couple week's worth of political violence, one would think that this exact sentiment is the way forward for all of us; to recognize that holding a different view doesn't make one unlovable, or evil, and that two seemingly incompatible ideas can both be true at the same time. It is possible to respect, even love, someone who doesn't share your political ideology, it happens everyday.

And, of course, now Emma Watson is the subject of blowback from people who can't wrap their head around the simple idea that one doesn't have to share every view you hold to be a good person.

Exactly! No one is perfect and you shouldn't cast them out just because you disagree with some of their ideas. People grow up with different experiences and are going to have different takes. And their ideas might even change after years of life.

Remember Barack Obama? He supported same sex marriage as a Senator but not when he ran for POTUS. But did support same sex marriage when running for his second term in the White House
