How does Democrats winning elections in reliably blue States translate into driving a Mack truck into Trump's agenda? A Republican victory in any of those elections would have been an upset, not the expected outcome. Virginia's governor has been a Democrat for over a decade. I can't tell you the last time NYC elected a Republican mayor . . . was it Rudy Guliani 25 years or more ago?

What's amazing is that a Republican actually stood a snowball's chance in any of those elections, which is more representative of how successful Trump's agenda has been even in traditionally blue strongholds.

Example? Kamala got 81% of the vote in NYC. Zohran? 51%. Slacker?

And when will the 4th turning actually happen? Next year? Next decade? Next century?

The mayor-elect in NYC did a "hold my beer" to the Democrats in NYC, not Trump. What it is proving is that the Democrat of today is not the Democrat of the JFK or even the Clinton era, but another animal altogether. What was the fringe element of the party is now its core. That is why Trump made such headway into the young voters in the last presidential election, it's why young voters will primarily be backing moderate and conservative candidates next year and not the Mamdani socialists. Oh sure, in the largest cities you will see the "free to me" crowd backing the radicals, because the majority of the large urban residents have allowed themselves to become dependent upon government charity in order to remain in that big city, just as has happened in NYC. Your average worker can't afford NYC and its $5k a month rents absent a subsidy, not even the highly, if not well, educated graduates of the colleges and universities.

Those with means are mobile, they can leave for more favorable locales at any time of their choosing, just like Ken Griffin took Citadel out of Chicago and relocated it in Miami, just like Tesla relocated to Texas, or JPMorgan Chase, which now has more employees in Texas than NY. Heck, even the NY Stock Exchange is expanding its footprint, not in NY, but in Texas.

Remember the speech by Danny Devito towards the end of Other People's Money? "We're dead alright, we're just not broke. And do you know the surest way to go broke? Keep getting an increasing share of a shrinking market." And that is what NYC has right now, a shrinking share of millionaires and billionaires that they are looking to extract a larger share of tax revenue from to fund the "free to me" subsidies that the highly, if not well, educated people who want to live in NYC are reliant upon to be able to stay in NYC. As Margaret Thatcher once remarked, and I'm paraphrasing, the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money to spend and everyone is left equally poor.

And do you know the difference between the redistricting in Texas and California? One is in place for the 2026 mid-terms and the other won't have a chance of being implemented until 2028 at the earliest, and probably more like 2030, or 2032, given California's demonstrated ability to accomplish anything within a reasonable time frame.

My answer is the same one you'll receive from anyone not directly dependent upon federal government charity in their life . . . no.

And that, really, lies at the heart of what the enhanced (un)Affordable Care Act subsidies are . . . federal government charity to prop up a poorly conceived and executed policy that is, has been, and always will be, more about purchasing votes and power than assisting the populace.

And yes, I agree that the enhanced subsidies for the (un)Affordable Care Act passed during the pandemic to make up for the economic damage the federal, State, and local governments imposed upon the populace by unnecessarily restricting the populace from being able to work was needed at that time and should, as originally envisioned by the Democrats who passed the law, expire as originally intended. The reason Obamacare, heck, insurance in general, is so expensive is precisely because of the manner in which Democrats crafted the law. The solution is for the Democrats to constructively engage in repairing the damage their law has wrought rather than insist that the ridiculous costs continue to mount so that they don't have to acknowledge their failure.
