The younger generation is, perhaps, better at retrieving information for analysis, but they are being trained to leave the actual analysis in the hands of others, or AI.
Whereas one from my generation, or the one that followed, might use a tool like ChatGBT to polish our correspondence, check it for errors, and suggest improvements, the youngest generations are using it to craft the communication entirely using information supplied.
When you aren't literate enough to comprehend, digest, and interpret on your own the concepts within a written document, you are left only with the possibility of accepting the interpretation provided to you by others, and according to the National Literacy Institute we have 130 million plus adults in this union that are incapable of reading a simple story to their children. Most adults of child bearing age currently were educated in a post-Dept of Education environment. Rule 39 applies . . .
In the Connecticut Yankee story, the hero went back and could improve the lives of those in the past. I am not sure most 20 somethings today would even understand how to do that anymore. They would be paralyzed once they lost their wifi.
Note I said most. I know some that are very hands on and do know history and basic technology.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
The degradation of American Education started decades ago, about the time Carter's Department of Education was created. The United States started declining internationally about that time. Literacy rates have declined. Math aptitude has fallen even faster.
And then Covid-19 struck. Kids staying at home watching a screen. Can't blame the kids for these horrible learning conditions so just keep giving them diplomas and letting them graduate anyways.
Then liberal universities decided that the ACT & SAT were racist so they no longer used them for acceptance rates. They just started accepting the top 10%, but no way to determine which was a quality high school and which was trash.
So now we have American kids accepted into the most prestigious schools but they don't know Algebra, Physics, or even Geometry. Sad.
Yet the Left ignores the crumbling system, just demand increased spending for Education.
