SPECIAL ENVOY TO GREENLAND HAS BEEN APPOINTED,TRUMP , FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON BELIEVES IT SHOULD BE ANNEXED.OR JOINED UP WITH THE UNITED STATES....R U NOT GETTING ALITTLE ANXIOUS OR EVEN SLIGHTLY CONCERNED THAT HE BELIEVES HIS AUTHORITY IS OVER THE ENTIRE GLOBE????
Is this a regurgitation of something that was said during the 2024 campaign along with inviting Canada to be the 51st State that collectivists are still upset about or was there something new in the news wires that I missed . . .
The move has angered Copenhagen, which said it would will call the US ambassador for "an explanation". Greenland's prime minister said the island must "decide our own future" and its "territorial integrity must be respected".
We have said it very clearly before. Now we say it again. National borders and the sovereignty of states are rooted in international law … You cannot annex other countries,” Mette Frederiksen and Jens-Frederik Nielsen said in a joint statement.
The two leaders added that “fundamental principles” were at stake. “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders, and the US should not take over Greenland,” they said. “We expect respect for our common territorial integrity.”
Trump on Sunday appointed the governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, as US special envoy to the vast, mineral-rich Arctic island. The US president has on several occasions said the US needs to acquire Greenland for security reasons, while refusing to rule out the use of force.
I AM QUITE SURE TRUMP THINKS HE CAN 'RULE THE WORLD'.....I GUESS NO ONE ELSE SEES THAT SCENARIO AS ALARMING.....WHAT THAT TELLS ME IS THE COLLECTIVE IS NUMB AND DUMB......OH, JUST ANOTHER PLOY TO HARASS THE LEFTIES.....BIG MISTAKE....
Why? The US has shown interest in adding Greenland to the Union, and? We bought Alaska from the Russians, bought a lot of land from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean from the French, we bought Manhattan Island from the indigenous people, is there a reason why asking the Danes and the Greenlanders to sell the land to us shouldn't be allowed? Is there something wrong with the president of these United States saying that we're interested in acquiring Greenland for the Union? Manufactured outrage is what I'd call it. Sure, they are free to say no to the offer, free to counter the offer, free to ignore the offer.
Now, I would agree that launching an armed invasion of Greenland is something we ought not to do unless Greenland is threatening or actually invading these United States, but what's wrong with trying to convince them to tell Denmark goodbye and say hello to us? Greenland is semi-autonomous, having their own Prime Minister, but they lack their own defense force, relying on the Danes for that aspect of their existence.
Would you be offended if someone came up to you and offered to buy your house? If you said no to their first offer, would you be offended if they made a second one? Trump is sending someone over there to make the case for Greenland to join these United States to the people who live there. I can understand why they might not wish to join, but making offers isn't, in and of itself, insulting. The amount of the offer might be, the terms of the offer might be, but there is nothing inherently insulting about being approached to acquire something that you possess, be it land, or a classic vehicle, or something else of value to you and to the person making an offer.

TRUMP DOES NOT POLITELY PURPOSE SOMETHING....HE ACQUIRES IT OR MAKES A HARD ASS ATTEMPT TO GET WHAT HE WANTS.....AS I STATED....NUMB AND DUMB....WE R SO SCREWED OVER , IF THAT IS YOUR ASSESSMENT......WHEN I READ THE ABOVE , I ALMOST WANTED TO DECK U....IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO BE THAT NAIVE....JMO
A special envoy is a diplomatic representative on a specific issue. The Pennsylvania legislature sent Ben Franklin over to England as a special envoy to try and find a peaceful way for the colonies to become independent. Thomas Jefferson was a special envoy to France to promote the United States and negotiate treaties. FDR was well known for sending special envoys to various countries and continents . . . including Japan prior to their attack at Pearl Harbor. Lincoln sent Slidell to Mexico to negotiate ahead of the Mexican-American War, he also accepted envoys from the Confederacy to talk about an end to the Civil War. Envoys are diplomats with a focused mission. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they fail, but the answer to every question never asked is always no, so to change the answer you have to ask the question.
There is nothing inherently insulting about sending a diplomat to discuss something . . . it's part and parcel of our 250 year history.
So Greenland and Denmark aren't all that thrilled with the idea . . . right now anyway . . . what's the problem with sending a diplomat over to try and convince them its a good idea that is in everyone's best interest?
I'm saying a special envoy is a legitimate diplomatic tool, and has been for the entirety of the existence of a United States of America, actually before since Franklin was sent by Pennsylvania and not the USA.
I seriously don't get the hullaballoo regarding the sending of a special envoy to focus on this issue with the governments of Greenland and Denmark. The might not be inclined to engage in diplomatic talks to secure an agreement at this point in time, but that doesn't change the argument that in many ways it makes sense given the shortest path for a Russian ICBM is straight over Greenland and it makes a lot of sense, from a US security perspective, to establish anti-missile defense on Greenland if an agreement can be made.
