My wife and I don’t discuss politics or religion with anybody unless one of our conservative friends/guests brings a subject up and nobody else is around.
Syd, the woman you are referencing is a very sweet person but also very messed up imo, so we only talk about guns and my dog who is the restaurant mascot. I’m pretty sure if she was younger she would have attempted to change genders because she sometimes wears a t/shirt that says “protect trans kids” and she’s the only woman I’ve ever met who has more guns than I do. Her wife is a former dominatrix that used to be”service” a lot of men on this mountain back in the day and says she is not gay. She got tired of men and married Syd for companionship.

SEE, from my pov, it is probably more common than u think,it's just on the "down low"...some do not want the attention and negative feedback.,mountain,city,or in between ,people have proclivities ...it is nothing new or novel.

I think my friendships with people that i disagree with politically and/or don’t share the same kind of lifestyle isn’t something you should be surprised about, but i do know why you are surprised. I consume liberal/progesssive news sources, more than i do conservative ones. It’s the same reason I won’t stick around in a political forum if only people I agree with are posting.
I know why you and others on your side picture people like me as intolerant, racist, homophobic, or any of the other made up phobics… it because the people you trust to give you information tell you thats who we are. They must do that to satisfy their consumers who also feel that way. As I’ve told you many times, you can’t know what’s in the hearts of people you’ve never met… even guessing is a bad idea.

I use these forums to blow off steam instead of risking losing friends and family members because of politics. I’m going visit my 84 year old dad in April, who lives in Florida. My stepmom is going to Paris with her daughter and she wanted me to come stay with him for a week. I fear this may be my last chance to see him in person and i want him to know that I’m not what his media and politicians say I am.
It may be too late to convince him that I’m not an intolerant “MAGA extremist” like Biden told him, but I’ll do my best.

Because of the restaurant, i can only stay for 4 days. I think my dad will be ready for me to go by then anyway, especially if he wants to talk politics. Im not looking forward to the flights… i’d drive if time didn’t matter.
