Bill Maher is a smart guy and he makes some valid points. There. Satisfied?

If you believe what Bill is saying, then you should all be defending the separation of church and state, because that's how the Muslims will take over.

I tried to explain that to them in terms they could understand a few weeks ago and they still couldn't understand it.

It was different, I think, because he was a reporter and made the statements while representing himself as an NPR reporter on another "news' channel. Bill Mayer is not a reporter. He is a commentator and is paid to offer opinions. But you'd have to read NPR's explanation of why they fired him. But then you hate NPR so I doubt you will.
