Major:

Contemplating the wars themselves is not what this day was about. It is a day to honor all who have and do serve. War is a terrible thing always, some are just or seem so, but men and women serve because they want to or are told they must. Either way, they serve and do so with the knowledge that they put their lives on the line. Today is a day to honor those who are or have done so.

Terribly sorry for your losses and the sacrifices of so many throughout time.

Armistice Day (also known as Remembrance Day) is on 11 November and commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.

Because of affectation by politicians, the hostilities and warfare was continued after Germany was defeated and many more thousands of soldiers lost their lives so that we could have a 'catchy' end of the war at 11 A.M. on the 11th day of the 11th month.

The basis of Veteran's Day will always be Armistice Day. It was for the remembrance of those who died.
