A dog that survived explosions in Afghanistan could not survive a brief stay in an Arizona animal shelter, it emerged today.

An unidentified employee at the Pinal County shelter was placed on administrative leave after putting Target, a female shepherd mix, to death by mistake, county animal care and control officials said yesterday.

"When it comes to euthanising an animal, there are some clearcut procedures to follow," Ruth Stalter, the county animal control director, said in a statement.

"Based on my preliminary investigation, our employee did not follow those procedures."

Funny how it wasn't the lead story on 7 News last night. It seems like every night they do a hurting pet story. I guess this one gets a pass because it's an example of the ineptness of government....and how dare the media reveal the poor care of animal by the government...how dare they create doubt in the mind of the sheep who need government health care.

LOL This is hilariously tragic in so many ways.

1.) Dog named "Target" by army...
2.) Dog survives sure fire death sentance and makes it back to civilization
3.) Stupid owner allows him to get out in the first place with no collar ID or Chip.
4.) Dog is killed by jackass that isn't doing their job properly... makes it through a war zone but can't survive the pound.
4.) Conservative partisan douche bags use the dog as a stump with which to spread their hate propaganda against liberals.
