I'm sorry, with all due respect, it is easy for those who have never served, put their lives on the line, etc., etc., to say that we should just accept this. That this is PC of the right. I have previously stated that I don't care what two consenting adults do behind closed doors. It is none of my business. That is where my personal tolerance of this issue ends.
I know damn well that there were gays in the military even back in the middle ages when I served, it was not such a big deal. To me, if they can pass the physical and the mental rigors of military life, keep their sex lives to themselves, that is fine. But this act of repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell is but the first step in Now the feminization of the military. It has already due to PC been done to the men of this country, by teaching us that we must be in touch with our feminine side. This is just a small part of what the left doesn't want to admit or explain, their attempt at converting this country into what they think would be the perfect country, their vision, which emulates European Societies, though they disregard the failures inherent in those societies, the failures of Socialism, but most importantly in my opinion, the failure to see the creeping takeover of those societies by the Muslim tide that will destroy them because of the decadence that they see in this type of culture. Put all the pieces of the puzzle together and envision the future world that this agenda leads to. And don't forget the inevitability of having to reinstitute the Draft to maintain our military.
Same issue with blacks in the military. Truman said they are in and they were. They dealt with crap before they were allowed to be "regular" grunts, GI's, etc. and had to deal with it afterward.
My mom said when we were in Germany 1948-1950, that black families were showing up in the apt building where we lived and it was fine. Of course, she was never prejudiced or bigoted so no big deal for her.

What is the same? Was there concern that the blacks would feminize the military?
Again it is easy to sit back and tell others what they should do, with no vision of the effect that policy will have.
Maybe it would be okay to have an all volunteer military full of LJs, if only we knew for sure that we would. Can you address the other concerns, or are you just focused on proving that you are tolerant and we are not?

This is a racist statement...to parallel blacks to a deviant lifestyle is horrendous.
Bigotry is bigotry... One doesn't "have to have served" to recognize it. For those who can't deal with it, and unnaturally obsess over it, the military is better without them. There will be plenty of folks who would otherwise have been separated from the service who will be willing to take their place...and do as well, if not better, jobs at it.
