So, short of stationing troops along the border at 100-ft intervals, (which would ALSO cost Billions), what's your solution? I'm serious...What would YOU offer as a suggestion to "close the border"? (And tell us how you would pay for it, since you're "taxed enough already" and want to keep cutting things...?)

Instead of just bitching about it, what would you suggest?

The feds waste billions on most things they do. That does not mean a fence cannot work. We need to want to make it work. The DHS is in charge, who believes they want it to work.

An unfact checked comment from another site:

""January 29, 2011: The U.S. government has decided to halt work on the border security fence program the SBI, or Secure Border Initiative). "

That article is a little bit misleading. They haven't ditched the SBInet completely, they just cancelled the Boeing contract. A very smart move since the contract was won, not on merit but on classic beltway banditry.

The technologies exist today to put up a very effective virtual fence. In fact, the original pilot network (known as BTSnet) in Douglas Arizona has been up and running for 5 years with no problems. But Boeing had a "not invented here" attitude toward off the shelf products."
