Radiation Levels Surge Outside Two Nuclear Plants in Japan

I really like nuclear power as an alternative to fossil fuels but it is no longer a viable option. When was the last new nuclear power plant built in the US? And Germany and Japan have chosen to shut down nuke plants and replace them with fossil and alternative energy replacements.
Those eternal 1/2 lives and the problem of what to do with the nuclear waste have killed the industry.
Reduced to naval ship power plants, and ego trips for places like Iran and North Korea.

I don't like the current plants as an alternative, but the design for the 4th Gen Reactors seem to have potential - I hope they continue to research and implement a trial one somewhere to see if it's possible to address the waste issue. And I hope they don't put it on a seismically active area, coastline susceptible to tsunamis or hurricanes, or high-risk tornado areas. The thing about converting to more sustainable energy sources is that you have to take into consideration the resources and climate of the region and what will fit best there that causes the least amount of risk and environmental impact. (I know, I'm smoking crack thinking that our govt can plan intelligently! LOL).

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
