Or consider this, the original product and new construction made little sense and Wisconsin would be on the hook for additional funds they didn't have. A Railroad to Nowhere?
Spending the money upgrading/repairing current infrastructure that is in use does sound like a good idea.

Time to get up from your beauty nap my friend. Can you explain to me how the maintenance of an existing rail line, at less than 20% of the cost, is inconsistent with less federal spending and more responsible government?
That wasn't the point of the OP, was it?... The point was he was "against it" (and ran on it) before he was for it. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of his flip-flop. Whether or not it's a good deal to take the money now, after he refused it before, is irrelevant to me. You guys are so keen on flip-flops, I just wanted to bring yet another one to your attention.

I didn't see where he was now supporting creating a brand new high speed rail line after first expressing opposition to it. Can you point out where that was? The existing line isn't a high speed rail project with an estimated permanent cost of $750K a year, or more, to the Wisconsin taxpayer, is it? Didn't think so.
So let's see here. The current application is for far less money and will cost the taxpayers of Wisconsin far less in future years. I'm trying as hard as I can LJ, but I just can't figure out how that equates to flip-flopping on his campaign promises of less waste, smaller government and fiscal restraint or his promise as a candidate to reject a brand new high speed rail line between Madison and Milwaukee.
I expect progressive logic to be a bit fuzzy from time to time, but mud is clearer than the logic used in this instance.
