CLAUDIA WRITES.....
Greetings!
The honey-sweet scent of plum blossoms fully unfurled wafts into the
greenhouse on the north breezes. It is both soothing and uplifting as I
work. In the evening, as the noise of the greenhouse fans dies out, the
sweet evening calls of birds trilling through the air are a joy. Spring
planting season means long days, weariness and a myriad of tasks, yet in the
context of great beauty and wonder and hope.
Today I am picking bountiful quantities of tender spinach. A pound
fills one of our "thank you" bags and will reward your taste buds with
salads, green smoothies, wilting, lasagna, creamed spinach, frittatas and
more. Your body will thank you for the nutrition, too. The heirloom
Italian chard is in it's full spring glory now - so tender and mildly
delicious.
Kale and baby kale, arugula, mustard greens, spring cilantro, parsley,
thyme and mint are amongst today's picking agenda for tomorrow's market. WE
WILL BE OPEN SATURDAY, APRIL 26TH, FROM 10 AM UNTIL 3 PM, WITH ALL OF THE
SPRING HOOPHOUSE BOUNTY PLUS MUCH MORE, INCLUDING FRESH EGGS AND GRASS-FED
BEEF.
MASTER GARDENERS WILL BE AT THE FARM FROM 10 AM UNTIL 1 PM TO ANSWER
YOUR GARDEN AND LAWN QUESTIONS. AT 1 PM, WE WILL HAVE A SPECIAL SHOWING OF
THE FILM "GENETIC ROULETTE" ABOUT GMOS. YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO
SIGN A PETITION REQUIRING THE LABELING OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS IN
COLORADO. You must be a registered voter in the state of Colorado and know
the address by which you are registered.
While you are here tomorrow, enjoy the blue sky, warm breeze, the bird
songs...and do take a walk to the plum trees. You need that peaceful moment
to inhale their rich fragrance and hear the low hum of the bees as they
eagerly partake of the bounty of pollen. Spring on the farm...enjoy!
