Ears - signs of infection (pain, tenderness, swelling, redness, "yeasty" smell, and discharge; mites

Eyes - signs of disease; discharge of tearing; abnormal movement or reaction to light

Mouth - signs of periodontal disease in teeth and gums; bad breath

Lymph Nodes and Thyroid Glands - any irregularities or changes in size

Heart - weak or abnormal heart sounds; an abnormally fast or slow rate; irregular beats

Lungs - wheezing, crackling, or other abnormal lung sounds

Abdomen - any irregularities in the margins of the liver, spleen, kidneys, and bladder; masses or tumors; thickened intestines

Base of Tail - any abscesses; abnormalities in anal glands; fecal mats; evidence of soft stools; growths; parasites, like tapeworm segments and flea dirt

Legs - limited range of motion in all limbs; signs of pain or discomfort; grinding sound in joints

Coat, Skin, and Nails - poor overall quality of coat; lumps and bumps; rashes; areas of hair loss or excessive dander; matted or saliva-stained fur; fleas or ticks; callouses; overgrown or ingrown toenails; dehydration

We couldn't do what we do without our amazing veterinarian, Dr. David Palmini, at Sano Hospital. Dr. Palmini has been our veterinarian of record since we first began our rescue journey, and even before the rescue became official, he treated many of Krissy's personal pets. He graciously gives of his time and knowledge to help save not only our orphans, but he is also the veterinarian of record for the Intermountain Humane Society in the foothills of Colorado, as well as treating animals for the Park County animal control.

Whether it be years of emergency work treating everything from rattlesnake bites to beaver attacks, or drawing blood from black bears at The Mayo Clinic, Dr. Palmini is the tip of the Sano spear, and a devoted student of all veterinary medicine has to offer.

After assuming ownership of Conifer Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Palmini created the Sano concept to provide a truly integrative practice based on cohesion between advanced state-of-art care and alternative medical therapies.

He began undergrad as an art major at Luther College. Dr. Palmini graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked as an emergency veterinarian before moving to Conifer in 2003.

A proud member of the intermountain community Dr. Palmini has been a Cub Scout Leader, Rotarian, and longtime volunteer for Intermountain Humane Society (IMHS). He served three years on the IMHS Board of Directors and currently volunteers as the Veterinarian on Record for both IMHS and PRAR where he performs weekly rounds at the shelter examining new intakes, overseeing treatment of ill animals, and performing pro bono spays and neuters.
Dr. Palmini has also served as an official race veterinarian for The Iditarod since 2008. Two weeks a year he is posted to remote checkpoints and Native villages in Alaska to provide veterinary care for the greatest canine athletes in the world.

Dr. Palmini is a true asset to animals everywhere, and we STRONGLY encourage pet parents to seek out his professional services. A veterinarian who is continually requested to treat Olympic calibur dogs, yet gives of his valuable time to help orphans is the guy we want on our team, and we are truly blessed to have him!
