COVID-19 briefs: County roads reopen to non-residents

Clear Creek County officials lifted the public health order closing county roads to non-local traffic effective at noon Thursday.

This comes on the heels of the county applying for two variances from the state’s Safer-at-Home order. (See full coverage on Page 3.)

The county commissioners, acting as the board of health, unanimously approved lifting the order at their meeting Thursday morning. The order has been in place since early April after it was approved 2-1 with Commissioner Sean Wood voting against it.

The commissioners said they felt the closure had been effective in protecting emergency responders and other resources that were critical in the earlier stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as slowing the number of visitors, who might spread coronavirus in the community.

COVID-19: Guide and outfitter businesses, rec center open with restrictions

The rec center’s pool was refilled and there were passengers on the Georgetown Loop Railroad this weekend after Colorado health officials released guidance that allowed outdoor recreation and personal recreation businesses to reopen.

Guidance for places of worship was also released.

Last week, Colorado transitioned to Safer at Home and in the Vast, Great Outdoors. Draft guidance language for these three sectors was released June 2 and finalized Thursday.

Rafting companies, as well as other guides and outfitters, were able to operate starting last week, and pools, gyms and playgrounds could open, according to Colorado Department of Public Health & Environmental guidance.
