Keeping Up With The Community - American 3D Printing

Did you know that there is a 3D printing store right in Evergreen?

3D printing is a technology that is very common among engineers, but has not always been readily available to the public. It's a way to build real objects from digital files. How it works is the 3D printer converts a software blueprint into slices and deposits layer after layer of plastic, metal or other composites until the finished product is formed. Compared to traditional manufacturing methods like cutting, carving and drilling, it takes less time and raw material.

So whether you're building a prototype for an invention, you need a custom part for your hot tub that you can't get from the manufacturer, or you want a really unique gift for someone, 3D printing can take your idea from a blueprint to a tangible product.

I can reverse-engineer an existing object; I can scan objects, like people and figurines; and I can make something up out of thin air.

Jeff Zepp on how he makes things go from 2D to 3D

Jeff Zepp is the owner of American 3D printing. He also teaches a 3D printing class at Rocky Mountain Academy of Evergreen. Jeff is well-versed in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software and is happy to show you 3D printing in action! He's the kind of guy that will greet you with a smile when you walk into his store. Watch this video for our full interview.

Trang:  Why 3D printing? What made you decide to go into this field?

Jeff:  I'm an engineer. I like to build things.

Trang:  What do you do at American 3D Printing?

Jeff:  Everything having to do with 3D. We do 3D design, 3D printing, 3D scanning, we sell 3D printers and the materials to print with.

Trang:  What are some practical uses for 3D printing?

Jeff:  Let's say your shower door hinge broke, and you can't get the hinge from the manufacturer, so just bring me your broken one and I'll make you a new one. We do lots of replacement parts. Right now I'm printing some parts for a model spacecraft.

Trang:  Would you like to offer a discount for 3D printing to the mountain communities?

Jeff:  Sure. Watch the video to find out what it is!
