Why Exercise?

Exercise promotes health and well-being.  It helps keep the body strong and in balance.  The increase in blood flow brings vital nutrients to your body and helps eliminate toxins.  There are many benefits to exercise.  Some benefits can be noticed immediately others are realized over time.

Exercise helps control weight – When you engage in physical activity you burn calories.  The more intense the activity, the more calories you burn.

Exercise combats disease –Regular activity can help prevent/manage a variety of health problems including stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, certain types of cancer, arthritis and falls. Blood pressure can be controlled because exercise strengthens the heart and increases vascularity (diameter) of your blood vessels. The elasticity of the blood vessels is improved due to the expanding and contracting during exercise. Pliable vessels are much less susceptible to plaque build-up (hardening of the arteries).  Being active boosts HDL (good) cholesterol and decreases unhealthy triglycerides.

Exercise can be fun – Physical activity is a fun way to spend time.  It gives you a chance to unwind and enjoy the great outdoors.  You can connect with friends and family in a fun social setting. Try a dance class, hit the trails or join a team.  Find something you enjoy and do it.  If you get bored, try something new.
